🚨 Tourists Found Dead in Crocodile Waters as Kruger National Park Murder Probe Expands

Tourists Found Dead in Crocodile-Infested Waters as Kruger National Park Murder Investigation Intensifies
Authorities in South Africa are continuing a major murder investigation after two elderly tourists were found dead in crocodile-infested waters inside the famous Kruger National Park.
The victims were identified as Ernst Marais, 71, and his wife Dina Marais, 73, a retired couple from Mossel Bay who had traveled to the park for a safari vacation. Police say the couple disappeared after leaving their camp near the Pafuri region on May 20.
Several days later, tourists discovered their bodies floating near Crooks Corner, a remote area where the borders of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique meet. The region is known for dangerous wildlife, including large crocodile populations.
Police Believe the Couple Was Murdered
Investigators confirmed both victims suffered multiple stab wounds. Reports also stated their hands had been bound behind their backs before their bodies were thrown into the river.
Police launched a double murder and hijacking investigation after discovering that the couple’s green Ford Ranger had vanished from the scene. Authorities believe the vehicle may have been used by the attackers to flee the area.
South African police have not announced any arrests so far, but officials said investigators are following strong leads.
Investigators Explore Possible Link to Poachers
Authorities suspect the couple may have encountered poachers or smugglers operating near the Mozambique border.
According to local reports, Crooks Corner has long been associated with illegal cross-border activity because of its isolated location and nearby unfenced river crossings.
Investigators believe the attackers may have killed the couple to prevent them from reporting illegal activity inside the park. However, police have not confirmed an official motive.
Kruger National Park Calls the Incident “Unprecedented”
South African National Parks described the tragedy as unlike anything previously recorded inside Kruger National Park.
Officials stated that no similar attack had occurred during the park’s nearly 100 year history.
The incident has shocked both local residents and international tourists because Kruger National Park is widely considered one of Africa’s safest safari destinations.
Following the murders, park authorities increased security measures and expanded patrols in the northern section of the reserve.
Community Mourns the Retired Couple
Friends and neighbors described Ernst and Dina Marais as kind people who loved wildlife and regularly visited safari parks together. Their deaths have triggered emotional reactions across South Africa and online communities worldwide.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to contact South African police.
