OFFICIAL WELCOME — POPE LEO XIV ARRIVES IN MADRID

On June 6, 2026, Pope Leo XIV arrived at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport in Madrid, Spain, beginning his Apostolic Journey to Spain from June 6–12, 2026. He was welcomed at the aircraft by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, along with two children in traditional dress who presented flowers.

The ceremony included a Guard of Honour, the presentation of official delegations, and a brief private meeting with the King and Queen in the airport’s Hall of Honour. This arrival marked the start of a highly symbolic visit focused on faith, unity, public service, and Spain’s Catholic heritage.

After Madrid, the Pope’s journey was scheduled to continue through Barcelona and the Canary Islands, with public events, meetings with Church leaders, and moments dedicated to migrants, young people, and local communities.

The official welcome in Madrid was more than a protocol ceremony — it was the opening image of a historic papal visit, watched by thousands across Spain and the Catholic world.
