Identical Twin Brothers Were Born Nearly Half a Size Apart, Proving That Even Babies Who Share the Same Beginning Can Grow in Their Own Way
When identical twins Finlay and Harrison Craven were born prematurely, their mother immediately noticed how different they looked.
Harrison arrived weighing 4 pounds 4 ounces, while his brother Finlay weighed only 2 pounds 15 ounces. The difference was so clear that people often assumed Harrison was the older sibling, not Finlay’s identical twin.

Their mother, Helen Craven from York, had waited a long time to become a parent. At 43, after receiving an inheritance from her grandmother, she decided to pursue IVF using donor sperm. Doctors transferred one embryo, so Helen never expected twins.
During a scan, she was stunned to learn there were two heartbeats.
The pregnancy soon became high-risk. By 13 weeks, doctors could already see that one baby was smaller than the other. Later, specialists discovered that Finlay was not receiving enough nutrients in the womb. To protect both babies, doctors delivered them by Caesarean section several weeks early.
When Helen saw her sons side by side, the contrast was unforgettable. Harrison looked much bigger, while Finlay seemed incredibly tiny and fragile.
But Finlay quickly showed that size was not the same as strength.

After specialist care, both babies grew strong enough to leave the hospital together. Months later, Harrison was still bigger, but Finlay was making steady progress and surprising everyone with his energy.
Helen says her smaller son has done amazingly well and is catching up in his own way.
Their story is a reminder that even identical twins can have very different journeys. Some children begin smaller, slower, or more fragile, but with care, patience, and love, they can still grow stronger every day
