BORN WITH ACRANIA AND A RARE BRAIN DEFECT, BABY ALICE REACHES A MILESTONE THAT HER FAMILY ONCE THOUGHT WAS IMPOSSIBLE

A baby girl who was born with two exceptionally rare congenital conditions is inspiring thousands after reaching a remarkable milestone just days following a delicate operation.
Little Alice Vitória was diagnosed with acrania, a condition involving the partial or complete absence of the skull, along with occipital encephalocele, a rare defect in which brain tissue and its protective covering protrude through an opening at the back of the head.

The conditions are considered extremely uncommon, and from the very beginning, Alice’s future was filled with uncertainty. Yet when she was born on July 15, she immediately began writing a story that few could have imagined.
More than six months later, Alice continues to surprise both her family and her medical team with the progress she makes day after day.

Determined to give their daughter every possible opportunity, her mother, Stefanny Cristina, launched an online fundraising campaign to help cover the cost of the complex surgery Alice urgently needed. The family’s story touched hearts across Brazil, with more than 4,000 people coming together to raise approximately R$125,000, making the life-changing procedure possible.
Last week, the surgery was successfully performed by neurosurgeon Dr. Alexandre Canheu.

Following the operation, Alice recovered well enough to leave the intensive care unit, bringing an emotional wave of relief to her loved ones.
Then came a moment her family will never forget.
Exactly one week after the delicate procedure, Alice lifted her tiny head on her own for the first time since surgery—a small movement that meant everything to those who had stood beside her throughout every challenge.

Sharing the emotional milestone, Stefanny wrote: “After exactly one week, following such a delicate surgery, something happened today that filled my heart with joy—Alice lifted her little head. What a beautiful moment. We felt supported and strengthened every step of the way.”
For her parents, it was another reminder that every small step forward is worth celebrating.

Dr. Canheu also shared encouraging news about Alice’s recovery, explaining that she continues to improve each day. As her condition becomes more stable, doctors have begun gradually reducing her oxygen support, with physiotherapy expected to play an important role in the next stage of her rehabilitation.
Although Alice still has a long journey ahead, her progress has already become a powerful reminder of resilience, faith, and the kindness of thousands of people who chose to help a small child they had never met.

Every smile, every movement, and every milestone is a celebration—not only for Alice’s family, but for the thousands of people who came together to help give her this chance.
