A heartwarming rescue in Connecticut has turned into a second chance at life for a lucky pup named Riggs—who is now an honorary member of a local fire department.

The story began when firefighters from the Town of East Haven Fire Department responded to an urgent call from animal control officers.

A puppy had been left trapped inside a parked car, where temperatures had soared to a dangerous 122°F (50°C). With no time to spare, the crew worked quickly to gain access to the vehicle and pull the overheated dog to safety.

Thankfully, Riggs was rescued just in time.

After the incident, authorities located the dog’s owners. Faced with potential charges, they were given the option to surrender the puppy—and they did. Riggs was then placed up for adoption, but he didn’t have to wait long to find a new home.

The very firefighters who saved him stepped in once again.
