East Bernard ISD football coach, wife killed in car crash

Athletic director and head football coach Jeremy Jenkins and his wife, teacher Brandy Jenkins, were killed in a car crash Saturday night.

EAST BERNARD, Texas — East Bernard ISD is mourning the loss of its athletic director and head football coach and his wife, a junior high school teacher, who were killed in a crash Saturday night.
The crash happened at about 10:07 p.m. on State Highway 60 near County Road 210 in Wharton County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said a 2025 Tesla Model Y was heading north on Highway 60 and approaching a curve when it went off the east side of the road and overturned.
The driver, 51-year-old Jeremy Shane Jenkins, and his passenger, 46-year-old Brandy Renee Jenkins, were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were from East Bernard.
Jeremy Jenkins served as East Bernard ISD’s athletic director and head football coach. District leaders described him as an “all in” coach who was devoted to his players, fellow coaches and the East Bernard community.
“He watched film non-stop, coached up our kids in the most loving way, truly wanted what was best for all kids, challenged us to see things through a different lens, loved his fellow coaches, and was an ‘all in’ kind of man,” the district said.
KHOU 11 featured Jenkins in 2024 as he was beginning his tenure as East Bernard’s head football coach. At the time, he spoke about what drew him to the community and why he wanted to make it home for his family.
“Just the tradition they’ve had here, support,” Jenkins said. “I’ve got young kids and I want them to be a part of a community and a program that’s sold out to football. Great chance to raise my family.”
Jenkins quickly found success after taking over the Brahmas football program.
Brandy Jenkins had recently joined East Bernard ISD as a teacher at East Bernard Junior High School. Although the school year had only been underway for three days, the district said she had already made a strong connection with her students.
“Her students loved her,” the district said. “Brandy loved the Brahmas, their three boys, Jeremy, all of the coaches, and her close circle of coaches’ wives.”
The district said counseling and support services will be available on campus for students and staff members. Additional information about those resources will be shared in the coming days.

East Bernard has always been a place where people show up for one another, and now is a time when that love and support are needed more than ever,” the district said.
DPS said the crash remains under investigation. No additional information was immediately available.
