4-YEAR-OLD ROSIE DIES AFTER BECOMING TRAPPED INSIDE HOT SUV IN UTAH
AMERICAN FORK, UTAH — What began as an ordinary afternoon of playing with her sisters ended in an unimaginable tragedy for a Utah family.
Four-year-old Rosalie “Rosie” Grace Freund died two days after police say she became trapped inside a hot SUV parked in her family’s driveway.
TRAPPED INSIDE FOR HOURS
Rosie was reportedly playing with her siblings at the family’s American Fork home on July 26 when she apparently climbed into her parents’ 2020 GMC Yukon XL.
Investigators believe she remained inside for as long as 2½ hours.
During that time, temperatures inside the vehicle may have climbed to approximately 120 degrees.
Police believe the vehicle’s rear child-safety locks were engaged and that Rosie did not know how to open the front doors.
When she was discovered, emergency responders immediately began CPR.
She was taken to a local hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to Salt Lake City. Court documents described her condition as extremely poor.
Two days later, Rosie died.
REMEMBERING A LITTLE GIRL WHO BROUGHT JOY
Rosie’s obituary describes her as “the embodiment of joy.”
She loved her three sisters and enjoyed:
Barbies
Swimming
Singing
Bright colors
Mac and cheese
Her family wrote that she “brought happiness wherever she went.”
Those memories now stand at the center of a family’s grief.
NO CRIMINAL CHARGES EXPECTED
American Fork Police Lt. Ryan Archuleta said investigators will not pursue criminal charges in connection with Rosie’s death.
Authorities have characterized the incident as a tragic accident.
A fundraiser has been established to help Rosie’s family as they navigate the devastating loss.
A FAMILY’S WORLD CHANGED IN HOURS
Rosie was only four years old.
She had parents who loved her, three sisters to grow up alongside and a life filled with the simple things that made her happy.
Now, her family is left remembering the little girl they described as a source of joy.
Behind this heartbreaking tragedy is not just a warning about hot vehicles—it is the story of a little girl whose family says she made the world brighter simply by being in it.
Police have said no criminal charges will be filed. This post is based on publicly reported information and does not allege wrongdoing by Rosie’s family.
