HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN ARIZONA DESERT NEAR NANCY GUTHRIE’S HOME — AUTHORITIES SAY NO CONNECTION TO MISSING WOMAN’S CASE

TUCSON, ARIZONA — The discovery of human remains in a desert area roughly 15 miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home has brought renewed attention to the high-profile disappearance of the 84-year-old Arizona woman.

But authorities are urging the public not to assume the remains are connected to Guthrie’s case.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said there is “no indication at this time” that the remains are related to Guthrie’s disappearance. Investigators also believe the remains had likely been at the location for an extended period of time.

REMAINS DISCOVERED IN THE DESERT

The remains were found near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard, an area southwest of Tucson.

Search and Rescue deputies responded to the location as authorities began examining the scene and working to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.

Despite the relatively close distance to Guthrie’s residence, investigators have emphasized that there is currently no evidence tying the discovery to her disappearance.

That distinction is important as the investigation into Guthrie remains active.

NANCY GUTHRIE HAS BEEN MISSING FOR MONTHS

Guthrie, the mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her Tucson-area home on January 31, 2026.

Authorities believe she was taken from her home against her will and have been investigating the disappearance as a kidnapping.

The case has produced ransom notes, surveillance footage and DNA evidence, but authorities have yet to publicly identify a suspect responsible for Guthrie’s disappearance.

One of the ransom notes released by investigators claimed Guthrie had died and had been “buried in nature,” but authorities have not publicly confirmed that claim. Investigators released the notes in hopes that their wording and other details could generate new leads.

A NEW DISCOVERY — BUT NOT AN ANSWER

The discovery of human remains inevitably raises questions because of the ongoing search for Guthrie.

However, investigators are currently treating the two matters as separate.

That means the remains do not provide a confirmed breakthrough in the Guthrie investigation at this point.

Authorities will still need to determine who the remains belong to and how long they had been at the location.

Meanwhile, the search for Nancy Guthrie continues.

Her daughter Savannah and other family members have repeatedly appealed to the public for information that could help investigators determine what happened to her.

THE SEARCH CONTINUES

More than six months after Guthrie disappeared, investigators are still working to piece together the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

The latest discovery may attract enormous public attention because of its proximity to Guthrie’s home, but police have specifically cautioned that there is no known connection at this time.

For Nancy’s family, the central question remains unanswered:

Where is Nancy Guthrie, and what happened to her?

Until investigators establish the identity of the remains and find evidence connecting them to Guthrie, the discovery remains a separate and developing investigation.
