HUMAN REMAINS FOUND NEAR NANCY GUTHRIE’S HOME — BUT THE DISCOVERY ONLY DEEPENS THE MYSTERY
For months, Nancy Guthrie’s family has been waiting for one answer:
Where is she?
Now, investigators have made a disturbing discovery roughly 15 miles from her Tucson-area home.
Human remains were found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard, prompting immediate questions about whether investigators had finally uncovered a clue in Nancy’s disappearance.
But the answer was not what anyone expected.
POLICE SAY THE REMAINS ARE NOT CONNECTED
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says there is currently no indication that the remains are connected to Nancy’s case.
Authorities also said the remains appeared to have been at the location for an extended period of time.
So instead of providing the breakthrough Nancy’s family has been desperately waiting for, the discovery appears to be an entirely separate investigation.
And Nancy is still missing.
THE BIGGER MYSTERY REMAINS
Nancy, 84, disappeared from her Arizona home earlier this year.
Investigators have treated the case as a suspected abduction, and surveillance footage previously showed an unidentified masked individual near her home around the time she vanished.
Authorities have also released two alleged ransom notes in an effort to identify whoever may have written them. One of those notes claimed Nancy had died, but investigators have not publicly verified the claims contained in the messages.
No arrest has solved the mystery.
No confirmed location has been announced.
And the newly discovered remains have not changed that.
ONE DISCOVERY. TWO VERY DIFFERENT QUESTIONS.
The desert remains may eventually help authorities identify another person and solve another case.
But for Nancy Guthrie’s family, the question remains painfully unchanged:
WHERE IS NANCY?
Her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, has continued pleading for information that could help bring her mother home.
And investigators are still asking the public to come forward with anything that could help explain what happened.
The discovery of human remains may have briefly raised hopes of a breakthrough.
Instead, it has left the Nancy Guthrie investigation exactly where it was:
Still searching. Still unanswered. Still waiting.
Authorities have not identified the remains publicly and say there is currently no indication they are connected to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. The investigation into Nancy’s whereabouts remains active.
