HUMAN REMAINS FOUND NEAR ANGELICA BROPHY SEARCH AREA — AUTHORITIES SAY THEY ARE NOT BELIEVED TO BE HERS

Human remains discovered near Palomar Mountain have raised new questions in the search for missing Oceanside mother Angelica Brophy.

But authorities say there is currently no indication that the remains belong to Angelica.

REMAINS DISCOVERED AUGUST 12

A volunteer Search and Rescue team found human remains at approximately 4:30 p.m. on August 12 in an embankment near the 33000 block of South Grade Road in Pauma Valley.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said the remains are not believed to be those of Angelica Brophy.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation into the remains.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the person’s identity as well as the cause and manner of death.

WHY THE DISCOVERY ATTRACTED ATTENTION

The location is significant because Angelica has been missing since July 6, and her abandoned vehicle was later found at Palomar Mountain State Park.

Authorities have conducted extensive searches of the surrounding area, including difficult terrain around the park.

That connection naturally raised questions when human remains were discovered nearby.

But investigators have not established a connection between the remains and Angelica’s disappearance.

ANGELICA IS STILL MISSING

Angelica, 44, was last seen on July 6 after visiting Harrah’s Resort Southern California and later traveling toward Palomar Mountain.

Her vehicle was found several days later, but searches have not located her.

Authorities have continued pursuing leads in the disappearance.

For her family, the discovery of human remains near the search area brings another painful development — but it does not provide an answer about Angelica’s whereabouts.

AND ANGELICA BROPHY IS STILL MISSING.

Authorities have also said there is currently no known threat to the community related to the discovery.

Until the remains are formally identified, speculation about their identity should be avoided.
