FATHER OF SIX KILLED WHILE CHANGING A FLAT TIRE — DRIVER FLEES THE SCENE

A routine roadside stop turned into a devastating loss for a family of eight.

Gregory Christopher II, 36, of Parker City, Indiana, was changing a flat tire on his work van along I-69 near Fishers on Tuesday night when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Investigators believe Christopher had been stopped on the shoulder for roughly 45 minutes before the collision. Emergency dispatchers began receiving calls around 9:45 p.m. reporting what appeared to be a person lying near a van. Christopher was pronounced dead at the scene.

THE DRIVER NEVER STOPPED

Indiana State Police say the vehicle that struck Christopher continued northbound and has not yet been identified.

Investigators are now asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or noticed a vehicle with possible front-end damage to come forward.

A FATHER WHO WAS THINKING ABOUT HIS CHILDREN

Christopher had just finished an evening work assignment and was heading home when the tire on his Roto-Rooter van blew out.

According to his mother, Kristi Sockol, Christopher contacted her and wanted his six daughters to know he would be home later.

His family remembers him as a devoted husband, father and brother — someone whose children were always at the center of his thoughts.

He leaves behind six daughters.

His mother described him as “the best girl dad anyone could ask for,” while his brother remembered him as one of the most selfless people he knew.

AND THE DRIVER WHO HIT HIM IS STILL OUT THERE.

Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate the crash and are urging anyone with information to contact authorities.

For Christopher’s wife and six daughters, the search is about more than identifying a vehicle.

They are waiting for answers about the man who never made it home.
