East Bernard Community Comes Together to Remember Jeremy and Brandy Jenkins
A deep sense of grief has swept through the East Bernard, Texas, community following the tragic deaths of Jeremy Jenkins and his wife, Brandy, who were killed in a car crash last weekend.

Jeremy was more than an athletic director and head football coach at East Bernard High School. To many students, he was a mentor, a role model, and a trusted adult who made a lasting difference both on and off the field. His role in the school community extended far beyond football, as he helped guide and encourage young people through some of the most important years of their lives.

Brandy had also recently begun a new chapter in the East Bernard Independent School District, starting the school year as a junior high teacher. Her sudden passing has left students, colleagues, friends, and families struggling to process the heartbreaking loss.

On Saturday afternoon, loved ones, friends, students, colleagues, and members of the community gathered at Sugar Creek Baptist Church to honor the couple and celebrate their lives. The memorial service became a place for people to share memories, offer comfort, and reflect on the impact Jeremy and Brandy had on so many people.

East Bernard ISD Superintendent Courtney Hudgins paid an emotional tribute to the couple, acknowledging that no collection of words could fully capture who they were or what they meant to the community.

“We’re all heartbroken, but I’m so thankful that they came into our lives,” Hudgins said, expressing gratitude for the time Jeremy and Brandy spent serving students and families in East Bernard.

She also made a heartfelt promise to the couple’s three sons, assuring them that the school district and the wider community would continue to stand beside them during the difficult days ahead.

The loss has been particularly painful for the school community, where Jeremy was a familiar and respected presence and Brandy had only just begun building relationships with students and fellow teachers. Their absence will be deeply felt in classrooms, on athletic fields, and throughout the district.

Jeremy and Brandy are survived by their three sons, who now face an unimaginable loss. Friends, colleagues, and community members have rallied around the family, offering support and reminding the boys that they do not have to face the road ahead alone.

During the memorial service, Jeremy’s brother, friends, and colleagues shared memories that helped paint a picture of the people Jeremy and Brandy were beyond their professional roles. Their stories reflected the kindness, dedication, and connections the couple built throughout their lives.

For East Bernard, this is more than the loss of a coach and a teacher. It is the loss of two people who had become part of the fabric of the community.
