Born without arms or legs, he lived with depression that nearly took his life at age 10 after being bullied, and today he travels to 70 countries giving talks about hope

When he was born, his parents were confronted with news they never expected. Their son had been born with tetra-amelia syndrome, an extremely rare condition characterized by the absence of all four limbs. They had no experience with the condition and initially struggled to understand what his future could look like.

As he grew older, life presented him with challenges that went far beyond physical limitations. He faced moments of loneliness, frustration and deep emotional pain, especially as he became increasingly aware of how different his life was from that of other children.

During childhood, he experienced a period of profound despair and later spoke openly about having struggled with thoughts of ending his life when he was 10. What ultimately gave him a reason to keep going was thinking about the impact his absence would have on the people who loved him.

That difficult period became one chapter of a much larger story.

Instead of allowing his circumstances to determine what he could or could not accomplish, he gradually began discovering new ways to live independently. Using the small foot he was born with, which has two toes, he learned skills that many people take for granted. He learned to write, operate a computer, swim, surf and even shave.

Each achievement represented more than simply learning a new skill. For him, they became evidence that limitations did not necessarily mean the end of possibility.

As he grew older, his determination continued to shape his future. He pursued higher education and graduated with degrees in accounting and financial planning. By the age of 17, he had already begun speaking publicly, sharing messages about faith, perseverance and finding meaning in difficult circumstances.

His story eventually reached far beyond his hometown.

He went on to establish Life Without Limbs, an organization focused on encouraging people facing hardship and disability. Through public speaking, writing and international outreach, he has shared his experiences with audiences around the world, taking his message to more than 70 countries.

His personal life also grew in ways he once might never have imagined. In 2012, he married Kanae Miyahara, and together they built a family and became parents to four children.

His journey is not a story about a life without difficulties. It is a story about someone who faced extraordinary challenges and continued searching for ways to move forward.

The child who once struggled to see a future eventually became a husband, father, graduate, author, speaker and advocate whose message has reached millions of people.

His life has become a powerful reminder that circumstances can shape a person’s journey, but they do not have to determine their purpose, their potential or the impact they can have on others.
