Anna Faris Says Her 14-Year-Old Son Has Asked Her to Embrace His Faith — and Their Talks Have Gone Much Deeper

Anna Faris and her 14-year-old son, Jack, do not always see religion the same way. Rather than avoiding those differences, the actress says they have turned them into some of the most thoughtful conversations in their relationship.
Faris, 49, recently revealed that Jack has developed strong religious beliefs despite growing up with a mother who says faith was not a significant part of her own childhood. At one point, the teenager even asked her to accept Jesus Christ as her savior.
Her answer was not a simple yes or no.
Faris told Jack that she would do virtually anything for him, but a decision involving faith would require many long conversations first.
That response captures the approach she appears to be taking as her son grows older: listening seriously to what he believes while also encouraging him to question, analyze and form his own opinions.
Faris Says Jack Has Become Religious
Faris discussed her son’s beliefs during an Aug. 20 appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast.
The actress explained that her own upbringing was different from the spiritual path Jack is now exploring.
“He is religious. I didn’t grow up with religion,” Faris said while describing their conversations.
Rather than treating that difference as a source of conflict, she appears fascinated by the way her son is developing his worldview.
Faris shares Jack with her former husband, Chris Pratt. The former couple married in 2009 and welcomed their son in 2012. They later separated in 2017. Jack was named after Faris’ father.
As Jack has entered his teenage years, Faris says their conversations have expanded into complex subjects involving faith, morality and the behavior of religious figures.
And she does not simply agree with him.
She challenges him.

She Wants Him to Think Beyond Simple Answers
Faris described Jack as emotionally steady enough to handle difficult discussions without becoming easily upset.
She called him “as solid as a tugboat, emotionally,” explaining that he tends to handle challenging situations well.
That confidence in her son’s temperament seems to give Faris permission to push their conversations further.
She has questioned him about subjects connected to his beliefs, including abortion and the behavior of high-profile religious leaders.
In one example, Faris asked Jack whether holding a pro-life position could, in some circumstances, reflect a certain degree of privilege. Jack responded that perhaps it could.
In another conversation, she asked what he thought about a megachurch pastor she considered dishonest.
On that subject, mother and son apparently found considerably more common ground: Jack expressed strong criticism of megachurch pastors.
For Faris, those exchanges matter because they show that her son’s religious interest is not preventing him from examining the people and institutions associated with faith.
She said she appreciates watching him begin to recognize hypocrisy while continuing to explore religion.
Just as important to her is the fact that they can keep talking even when they disagree.

Their Differences Have Become Part of Their Bond
The conversation offered a glimpse into a side of Faris’ relationship with Jack that the public rarely sees.
Although both Faris and Pratt are major Hollywood figures, Jack has generally been kept away from constant public attention.
Faris has occasionally spoken about him, however, and her comments have consistently emphasized his grounded personality.
In March 2025, she described Jack as remarkably down-to-earth despite growing up around Hollywood.
She said she did not entirely understand where that steadiness came from, but she was deeply grateful for it.
That quality appears to be increasingly important now that Jack is old enough to develop convictions that may differ significantly from his mother’s.
Instead of expecting him to mirror her beliefs, Faris seems focused on making sure those convictions can withstand questions.
She is willing to challenge him.
And, based on her description of their exchanges, Jack is willing to challenge her as well.
Jack Recently Stepped Onto the Red Carpet With His Mom
Though Jack has largely grown up outside the spotlight, fans recently saw him accompany Faris during an important professional moment.
In June 2026, he attended the global premiere of Scary Movie with his mother in Los Angeles.
The appearance had particular significance for Faris, whose connection to the Scary Movie franchise stretches back decades.
Jack joined her on the red carpet wearing a black suit and white dress shirt. Faris’ husband, cinematographer Michael Barrett, and Barrett’s daughter Margot also attended.
Faris married Barrett in July 2021 and became a stepmother to Margot.
Pratt, meanwhile, married Katherine Schwarzenegger two years after his divorce from Faris. Pratt and Schwarzenegger have three children together: Lyla, Eloise and Ford.
The blended family circumstances surrounding Jack have changed considerably since his parents separated, but Faris’ recent comments suggest that her relationship with her son has entered a new stage of its own.
He is no longer simply a young child looking to his parents for answers.
He is beginning to decide what he believes for himself.

Faris Seems More Interested in the Conversation Than Agreement
Perhaps the most revealing part of Faris’ comments was not that Jack has become religious or that his beliefs differ from hers.
It was her reaction to those differences.
She did not describe trying to pull him away from religion.
Nor did she suggest that she would automatically adopt his beliefs simply because he asked her to.
Instead, Faris described a relationship built around prolonged conversation — one in which a mother can question her son’s ideas while allowing him space to question the world around him.
For Faris, seeing Jack identify contradictions and hypocrisy appears to be evidence that he is not simply accepting everything he hears.
She is proud that he is examining his beliefs.
And she seems equally grateful that he feels comfortable discussing them with her.
As Jack moves deeper into his teenage years, the answers he reaches may continue changing.
So may his mother’s.
For now, Faris appears less concerned with making sure they arrive at exactly the same conclusions than with preserving something potentially more valuable: a relationship in which they can disagree, ask difficult questions and continue talking anyway.
