MANHUNT ENDS IN TRAGEDY: KAREN SOLOMON FOUND DEAD DAYS AFTER HUSBAND’S DEATH

The desperate search for Karen Solomon, the Massachusetts woman wanted in connection with the death of her police-officer husband, has ended with a devastating discovery.

Solomon, 58, was found dead Monday, August 24, in a wooded area behind Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester, nearly a week after her husband, Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon, was found dead inside their home.

A handgun was recovered near her body.

Authorities said they believe the case was a “tragic murder-suicide.”

IT BEGAN WITH A 31-YEAR POLICE VETERAN FOUND DEAD

Kurt Solomon, 57, was discovered shortly before 5:30 a.m. on August 18, after police responded to an emergency call at the couple’s Worcester home.

Investigators determined he had suffered fatal injuries involving a sharp object.

Karen was not at the residence when officers arrived.

Authorities subsequently identified her as a suspect and launched an intensive search. An arrest warrant was issued charging her with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

THE VIDEO THAT BECAME A KEY CLUE

Surveillance footage showed Karen walking away from the area shortly after police were dispatched to the home.

She was wearing casual clothing, including shorts, a shirt and flip-flops.

Authorities warned that she should be considered armed and dangerous, triggering a major multi-agency search involving police dogs, drones and other resources.

Investigators also concentrated part of the search around Coes Pond, where she was believed to have been seen.

For days, however, there was no sign of her.

On Monday afternoon, two employees from Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital were walking near the facility when they discovered human remains in a wooded area.

Police responded and recovered a handgun near the body.

Authorities said they were confident the remains belonged to Karen Solomon, although final identification was still pending at the time of the announcement.

Chief Paul Saucier then delivered the conclusion that brought the manhunt to an end:

Investigators believe the deaths were a murder-suicide.

Kurt Solomon had served with the Worcester Police Department for 31 years.

He leaves behind two sons, his mother and brothers.

The New England Police Benevolent Association described him as a veteran officer whose death has deeply affected his colleagues and the Worcester police community.

His funeral services were scheduled for the week following his death.

Now, his family is preparing to mourn both Kurt and Karen.
