A Wisconsin community is mourning the heartbreaking death of a 17-year-old high school athlete who suffered a serious injury during a football game just days before he was set to begin his senior year.
Adam Massman, a student at Alma Center Lincoln High School, was a two-way standout who took snaps at quarterback while also playing defensive back. Football was only part of his athletic life. He also competed in baseball and basketball and was known for being deeply involved with his school and community.

Massman was injured during a Thursday night football game and received immediate attention from emergency medical personnel who were at the field. He was then transported to a hospital, where he later died.

School district Superintendent Drew Semingson informed the community of the devastating loss, emphasizing that Massman’s family had longstanding ties to the district. His mother, Brianne Massman, worked as an elementary school counselor, while other relatives were teachers, a school board member and members of the school community.

The teenager was remembered as someone who easily connected with others and seemed to make friends wherever he went. In response to his death, the district made counseling services available to students during the first two days of the school year.

Although officials have not disclosed the full nature of Massman’s injuries, his mother said the family was informed that the teenager experienced helmet-to-helmet contact during the game.

The loss has left Massman’s family and friends struggling to comprehend how a promising young athlete could be gone so suddenly.

His obituary described sports as one of his greatest passions, highlighting the joy he found in playing alongside his friends. Whether throwing touchdown passes, competing in baseball or participating in track events, Massman was eager to take part.

Students found a poignant way to honor their fallen friend by decorating his school parking space. The tribute included the initials “LLA,” meaning “Long Live Adam.” Friends also incorporated references to his family’s cattle operation and the tire tracks associated with his truck.

Beyond athletics, Massman had a strong connection to animals and spent years participating in cattle shows. His involvement in that community made his death especially painful for fellow exhibitors and supporters.

The Jackson County Fair also expressed its grief, remembering Massman as a dedicated cattleman and showman while offering prayers and condolences to those closest to him.

For his family, the days ahead will be marked by an absence that cannot be replaced. Yet amid the grief, they are holding onto the memories of the 17 years they shared with a young man who brought energy, friendship and enthusiasm to so many parts of their lives.
