MOTHER OF A66 CRASH VICTIM MAKES EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE REQUEST

MIDDLESBROUGH, England — The mother of Makai Saddington, one of five young men killed in the devastating A66 crash, has made an emotional appeal for mourners to come together and give her son the farewell she believes he deserves.

Saddington, 18, died alongside Michael Robert Cahill, Theo Rae, Cole Robert Worthy and Jakub Matusiak when the Volkswagen Passat they were travelling in collided head-on with a marked police vehicle on the A66 near Middlesbrough. PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough were also killed in the collision.

A MOTHER’S REQUEST

Saddington’s mother has urged friends and supporters to gather and remember her son following an earlier memorial that attracted controversy.

The latest tribute plans have drawn attention in the local community, with some residents expressing concern about the behavior surrounding previous gatherings.

But for Saddington’s family, the focus is on remembering an 18-year-old son and the life he lived rather than the circumstances that brought him into the headlines.

A previous gathering near the crash site attracted hundreds of people and included balloons, flares and fireworks.

Some local residents criticized the event, saying parts of the gathering were disrespectful given that two police officers also lost their lives in the same collision.

The contrasting reactions have created a painful divide over how the five young men should be remembered.

THE CRASH LEFT SEVEN FAMILIES GRIEVING

The A66 collision happened in the early hours of Saturday, Aug. 22.

Police had earlier pursued the Volkswagen for several minutes before the pursuit was called off after the vehicle began travelling in the wrong direction. The collision happened approximately 10 seconds later.

The two officers who died were not involved in the original pursuit; their marked vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction when it was struck. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Saddington’s death has prompted tributes from relatives and friends, who have described their grief at losing someone so young.

His mother now wants mourners to come together and give her son a final farewell.

The request comes amid intense public scrutiny of the crash and revelations about previous allegations involving some of those who died. Saddington had been awaiting trial over allegations involving police officers before his death.

A FINAL FAREWELL

The circumstances surrounding the A66 crash continue to be investigated, while the families of all seven victims face the difficult task of saying goodbye.

For Makai Saddington’s mother, the upcoming gathering is ultimately personal.

Whatever people think about the events leading up to the crash, she is asking mourners to remember her son for the life he lived — and to give an 18-year-old a final farewell his family believes he deserves.
