14-YEAR-OLD GIRL WAS FILMING TIKTOK VIDEOS WHEN TRAGEDY STRUCK — TEEN NOW FACES MURDER CHARGE
A 14-year-old girl was reportedly filming TikTok videos at a Washington, D.C., residence when a confrontation involving another teenager ended in tragedy.
More than a year after Zytina Mason-Brown was found with a fatal injury, a teenager who was present that day has now been arrested and charged in connection with her death.
WHAT HAPPENED THAT DAY?
Police responded to a residence in Washington, D.C., on May 21, 2025, after receiving reports of a teenage girl who had been seriously injured.
Zytina was found at the scene and was pronounced dead.
At first, a 15-year-old boy who was present reportedly told investigators that Zytina had accidentally injured herself while handling a firearm he said he had obtained from his uncle.
A female witness initially supported that account.
But investigators later received a very different version of events.
THE WITNESS CHANGED HER STORY
According to PEOPLE, the female witness later told authorities that Zytina had been filming TikTok videos when the teenage boy began dancing near her.
The witness said Zytina pushed him away — and that the boy then shot her.
That changed account became a major development in the investigation.
The witness was later arrested for allegedly lying to authorities.
MORE THAN A YEAR LATER, AN ARREST
After an investigation lasting more than a year, the teenager — now 17 years old — was arrested.
He has been charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with Zytina’s death.
The charge represents an allegation, and the case must still proceed through the court system.
A FAMILY LEFT WITH QUESTIONS
For Zytina’s loved ones, the case has already lasted far longer than anyone could have imagined.
What began with conflicting accounts about what happened inside the home eventually became a lengthy investigation involving witness statements and a changing version of events.
Now, prosecutors will have to present their evidence in court.
THE QUESTION THAT REMAINS
Zytina was only 14.
She was reportedly making TikTok videos when the confrontation unfolded.
More than a year later, a teenager who was there now faces a serious criminal charge.
One changed statement. One lengthy investigation. One arrest more than a year later.
And the full story of what happened to Zytina Mason-Brown will now be decided in court.
