At just eight years old, Félix Joel has already learned that being different does not mean living a smaller life.

Born without both legs and his right arm, Félix has faced challenges from his earliest days. Simple things that many children take for granted — moving around independently, joining games or trying new activities — have often required patience, determination and support.

But Félix has never allowed those challenges to define him.

The spirited youngster has spent much of his childhood discovering what his body can do. He has trained in taekwondo, played bocce and table tennis, and enjoys taking part in artistic activities.

His journey has not always been easy. Growing up without limbs meant that Félix and his family had to constantly find new ways for him to participate alongside other children. Yet rather than stepping away from the world around him, he continued finding ways to be part of it.

“We have always wanted Félix to have the same opportunities to discover what he loves,” his family shared. “He has shown us again and again that limitations do not have to decide his future.”

Then came a moment that could make an extraordinary difference in his everyday life.

On Wednesday, October 9, Félix became one of several patients at Mi Pueblo Hospital in Florencio Varela to receive a prosthetic limb designed specifically for him.

The life-changing initiative began when the hospital’s Head of Movement and Rehabilitation, after repeatedly facing difficulties through official channels while trying to obtain prosthetic devices for patients, reached out to her niece Isabela, a student in the Orthotics and Prosthetics program at UNSAM.

The connection soon reached Professor Rubén Corrao, who guided a group of students in designing and creating prosthetic devices for Félix and other patients — completely free of charge.

For the families involved, the day was about far more than receiving a medical device.

It represented a new opportunity.

“For us, this means hope and possibilities,” Félix’s family said. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who believed in him and helped create something that can make his world a little more accessible.”

As Félix continues growing, learning and discovering new passions, his story is a reminder that childhood dreams should never be measured by physical differences.

For Félix and the other patients who received their prosthetic devices that unforgettable day, October 9 marked not an ending, but the beginning of a brand-new chapter.
