DAD-OF-TWO AND HIS WIFE FOUND IN SPANISH VILLA HOT TUB — THEIR TEENAGE CHILDREN MADE THE HORRIFYING DISCOVERY

It was supposed to be a relaxing family holiday in Spain. Instead, two teenagers reportedly woke to a nightmare after discovering their parents inside the villa’s hot tub.

Patrick Tobin, 48, and his wife Thomasina Tobin, 51, had travelled to Spain with their two children, aged 14 and 16, for what was meant to be a two-week family getaway.

They arrived at the luxury Villa Luna in Cullera, near Valencia, on August 22.

Just days later, the holiday turned into an unimaginable tragedy.

The couple were found inside the property’s hot tub on Tuesday, August 25, after their teenage children reportedly discovered them.

Investigators are now examining whether a malfunction in the hot tub created a powerful suction that trapped the couple underwater.

A FAMILY HOLIDAY ENDS IN HORROR

The Tobin family had chosen a luxury hilltop property overlooking the Spanish coastal area of Cullera.

The villa reportedly cost around £2,000 a week and was intended to be their home for a two-week break.

Patrick, a New Zealand-born father of two, worked in Britain’s technology sector.

Thomasina was originally from County Monaghan, Ireland, but had lived in London for around two decades. She was a chartered quantity surveyor and came from a family with strong connections to Irish theatre.

Her father, Tommy McArdle, is a well-known playwright, actor and producer who spent years working on the Irish drama Glenroe.

Nothing about the family’s holiday appeared to suggest that such a tragedy was about to unfold.

Then something went terribly wrong.

INVESTIGATORS SUSPECT A RARE “SUCTION ENTRAPMENT”

Initial investigations are focusing on the possibility that the couple became trapped by the hot tub’s suction system.

The phenomenon, known as suction entrapment, can occur when a powerful vacuum forms around a drain or suction outlet.

A person’s body, hair or clothing can become trapped underwater, making it extremely difficult to escape.

According to reports cited by The Irish Sun, investigators believe Patrick may have tried to help his wife after she became trapped.

That could explain why both were ultimately found in the water.

However, the precise sequence of events has not yet been officially established.

THEIR CHILDREN WERE UPSTAIRS

Perhaps the most heartbreaking detail is how long the teenagers are believed to have been unaware that something had happened.

Post-mortem examinations reportedly found marks and scratches on both Patrick and Thomasina.

There was also reportedly blood in the cloudy water inside the hot tub.

Local reports have suggested that the couple may have suffered cardiac arrests following extreme physical stress and exhaustion.

However, investigators have not publicly established every detail surrounding the circumstances.

Police are continuing to examine the property and the equipment involved.

POLICE RULE OUT FOUL PLAY — FOR NOW

Investigators have reportedly found no signs of forced entry at the property.

Nearby CCTV footage also did not show suspicious activity.

As a result, authorities have reportedly ruled out foul play as the investigation turns increasingly toward the hot tub itself.

But that does not mean the case is over.

Police have examined the hot tub three times since the tragedy.

An industrial hot tub specialist was also reportedly seen at the villa as investigators worked to determine exactly what happened.

For the Tobin family’s loved ones, the investigation can only answer part of the tragedy.
