A man pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in a high-speed crash that killed an elderly couple in Ventura County.

Neil Liam Reb, 22, of Oak Park, pleaded guilty on Aug. 28 for the deaths of Maria Ramirez, 73, and Alejandro Ramirez, 77, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said.

The crash occurred on May 6, 2025, as Reb was driving his Jeep Wrangler SUV on surface streets in Newbury Park that afternoon around 4 p.m.

As he approached the intersection of Via Las Brisas and Calle Del Prado, he slammed into the elderly couple’s Volkswagen Tiguan SUV.

The couple sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead. Reb only suffered minor injuries.

Investigators said Reb was driving recklessly at the time, traveling at nearly twice the posted speed limit of 45 mph.On Aug. 28, 2026, the DA’s Office announced that Reb pleaded guilty to two counts of felony gross vehicular manslaughter and admitted to the special allegation that the crime was a serious felony.

“Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez lost their lives because of a reckless decision to drive at an extremely dangerous speed, and their family will have to live with that loss forever,” said Supervising Senior Deputy District Attorney Blake Heller. “This guilty plea holds Mr. Reb accountable for his actions and the tragic consequences they caused.”

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 9 at Ventura County Superior Court. Reb remains out of custody on $50,000 bail.
