Blues Prospect Quinn Mayich Suffers Severe Brain Injury After Heat Stroke During ASU Workout

Quinn Mayich, a 2023 NHL Draft pick of the St. Louis Blues, remains hospitalized after collapsing during an outdoor workout at Arizona State University on August 20, 2026.

According to the family’s attorney, Mayich suffered exertional heat stroke, which resulted in oxygen deprivation to his brain. The incident occurred during an outdoor training session in Arizona while an extreme heat warning was in effect.

The workout reportedly included a series of demanding physical exercises, including sprints, planks, push-ups and bear crawls.

At some point during the session, Mayich collapsed and was subsequently hospitalized. His condition remains extremely serious.

The family’s attorney described the resulting brain damage as extremely severe, emphasizing the gravity of Mayich’s condition. The attorney said the family “needs a miracle” as they continue to hope for his recovery.

Mayich’s hospitalization has drawn concern from the hockey community, particularly because he was regarded as a promising young player after being selected by the Blues in the 2023 NHL Draft.
