“FOREVER OUR LITTLE ANGEL” — FAMILY PREPARES TO SAY GOODBYE TO TWO-YEAR-OLD PETER MULCAIRE

A little boy who had only just begun preschool is now being remembered as a “beautiful boy” and a “little angel” after a devastating collision ended his young life.

Two-year-old Peter Mulcaire, from Rathkeale, Co. Limerick, was fatally injured after he was struck by a vehicle near his home on Saturday afternoon.

Peter had reportedly been playing on his toy tractor when the tragic collision happened.

Despite efforts to save him, he suffered catastrophic injuries and died shortly afterward.

“HE MEANT THE WORLD TO US”

Peter’s family has been left facing an unimaginable goodbye.

His parents, Kerrie and James, remembered their little boy as their “golden boy” — a much-loved child adored by his parents, older brother, grandparents and wider family.

Relatives and friends have shared emotional tributes online, describing Peter as a beautiful, happy child who brought enormous love and joy to those around him.

His aunt also paid tribute to the close bond Peter shared with his father and older brother, as the family tries to come to terms with a loss they never expected.

A COMMUNITY IN MOURNING

The tragedy has shaken Rathkeale.

A community event scheduled for the following day was cancelled out of respect for Peter and his grieving family.

People across the town have since gathered around the family, offering prayers and messages of support as they prepare to say goodbye to the little boy.

THE FAMILY’S FINAL FAREWELL

Peter will be waked at Cross’s Funeral Home in Limerick on Tuesday evening, before his funeral Mass on Wednesday.

His Mass of the Angels is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on September 9 at St Mary’s Church in Rathkeale, followed by burial at New Cemetery.

His family has made a heartfelt request for privacy and has asked mourners not to take photographs or videos during the funeral service.

Meanwhile, Gardaí continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Peter’s death.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant and was later released pending analysis of an evidential sample. He has not been convicted of any offence in connection with Peter’s death.

For Peter’s family, however, the investigation is only part of the story.

The hardest part is saying goodbye to a two-year-old who had only just started discovering the world.
