A family is preparing to say goodbye to their “golden boy” after two-year-old Peter Mulcaire lost his life in a heartbreaking collision in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick.

Peter had only recently started preschool.

He was just beginning a new chapter of his little life when tragedy struck.

According to reports, Peter had been playing on a toy tractor near his home on Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a Jeep. He suffered catastrophic injuries and was later pronounced dead at University Hospital Limerick.

For Peter’s parents, Kerrie and James, the loss has been unimaginable.

Their little boy was remembered by loved ones as a joyful, loving child who was adored by his parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family.

Family tributes described Peter as a “beautiful boy” and a “little angel.” His aunt spoke of how deeply loved he was and the special bond he shared with his family.

Now, instead of watching Peter grow up, his family is preparing for his funeral.

A COMMUNITY IN MOURNING

The tragedy has left Rathkeale heartbroken.

A community event scheduled for Sunday was cancelled out of respect for Peter and his grieving family.

The little boy’s death has also prompted an outpouring of messages from people who never knew him personally but have been touched by the story of a two-year-old whose life ended far too soon.

FUNERAL DETAILS RELEASED

Peter will be laid to rest following a Mass of the Angels on Wednesday, September 9.

His family has asked for privacy during the funeral and made a particularly emotional request: no photographs or videos during the service.

For those who loved Peter, this will be the final goodbye to a little boy who had only just begun preschool — a child with so much life still ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Gardaí continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was later released after providing an evidential sample. Gardaí have stressed that the investigation remains ongoing.

Peter’s family is now left with memories, photographs and the words of those who loved him.
