A NEWBORN BABY’S DEATH HAS PUT FOUR MEMBERS OF THE SAME FAMILY CIRCLE IN COURT — AND ONE FAMILY CONNECTION LINKS THEM ALL

A newborn baby girl is at the center of a disturbing criminal case in Sheffield — and four adults from the same closely connected family circle are now facing murder charges.

The baby, identified in court only as Baby S, was found dead at a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday.

Now, Andrea Skopova, 20; Peter Horvath Jr, 19; Peter Horvath Sr, 38; and Nina Horvathova, 37, have all been charged with her murder.

The four defendants are all Slovakian nationals.

But their relationship to one another is drawing particular attention.

ONE FAMILY CONNECTION

Skopova is accused in connection with the death of the newborn.

Peter Horvath Jr was also charged in the case, while his parents, Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova, are facing the same murder allegation.

That means four people closely connected through one family are now appearing in court over the death of a baby girl.

But prosecutors are also making additional allegations about what happened after Baby S died.

All four adults have additionally been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal what had happened.

Those are allegations, and none of the defendants has been convicted.

BABY S WAS FOUND IN AN OUTBUILDING

Police were called to a property on Holywell Heights on Sunday morning after concerns were raised about the safety of an infant.

According to the prosecution case outlined in court, Baby S was discovered inside an outbuilding at the property.

The court heard that the newborn had suffered multiple injuries.

Police had initially described the circumstances as a significant and complex investigation, while urging members of the public not to speculate about the case online.

Flowers were later left near the police cordon as the local community reacted to the news.

A FIFTH PERSON IS ALSO CHARGED

The case does not involve only the four adults.

A 15-year-old girl has also been charged, although she cannot be legally identified because of her age.

She is facing a separate allegation of perverting the course of justice.

The teenager appeared in court and was remanded into youth custody.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were also arrested during the investigation on suspicion of murder. They have since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

INVESTIGATORS WARN AGAINST ONLINE SPECULATION

South Yorkshire Police Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward described the investigation as significant and complex.

Police have asked the public to avoid posting speculation or unverified information online, emphasizing that protecting the integrity of the criminal justice process is important as the investigation continues.

For now, the central questions remain unanswered:

What happened to Baby S?

Who was responsible for her death?

And perhaps most importantly, what role — if any — did each of the people now facing charges allegedly play?

Those questions will ultimately have to be answered through the evidence presented in court.

The four adults remain accused and are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
