FOUR PEOPLE ACCUSED IN BABY S CASE NOW FACE ANOTHER SERIOUS ALLEGATION — AND IT CENTERS ON WHAT ALLEGEDLY HAPPENED AFTER THE NEWBORN’S DEATH

Four defendants accused over the death of a newborn girl in Sheffield are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice. Their emotional Crown Court appearance has now set the stage for a major trial next year.

The case surrounding a newborn girl known only as Baby S has taken another disturbing turn.

Four people accused of her murder are now facing additional allegations concerning what prosecutors say happened after the infant died.

Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal the killing.

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot legally be named because of her age, is separately charged with perverting the course of justice.

All five appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Sept. 3, where the atmosphere was described as highly emotional.

And the details heard in court have left Baby S at the center of one of Sheffield’s most disturbing ongoing criminal investigations.

THE NEWBORN AT THE CENTER OF THE CASE

Baby S was discovered at a property in the Holywell Heights area of Wincobank, Sheffield, on Aug. 30, after police were called following concerns about the safety of a newborn.

A forensic post-mortem examination later determined that the baby’s cause of death was stab wounds.

At an earlier hearing, prosecutors told the court that the baby had suffered 33 wounds in 15 separate stabbing incidents, with injuries to her face and torso, including the front and back.

Her body was found wrapped in a towel inside a blue bag in an outhouse at the property, according to evidence presented in court.

The discovery triggered a major police investigation and resulted in several arrests.

FOUR ADULTS NOW FACE THREE SEPARATE CHARGES

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that Skopova, Horvath Jr, Horvath Sr and Horvathova have each been charged with:

• Murder
• Causing or allowing the death of a child
• Perverting the course of justice

The CPS says the final charge relates to alleged steps taken to conceal the killing of the infant.

Some court reporting has described the allegation more specifically as involving the alleged cleaning of the scene.

That means the prosecution case is not limited to what allegedly happened to Baby S herself.

Investigators are also examining what allegedly happened afterward and whether attempts were made to conceal what had taken place.

THE 15-YEAR-OLD DEFENDANT

A 15-year-old girl also appeared in court.

Because she is a child, her identity cannot be reported.

She is charged with perverting the course of justice, rather than murder.

The CPS has confirmed that she is being prosecuted separately from the four adults.

During the Crown Court hearing, the teenager was visibly distressed and was reported to have sobbed throughout the proceedings.

Andrea Skopova was also reported to have cried during the hearing.

26 RELATIVES WATCHED FROM THE GALLERY

The courtroom appearance was striking.

All five defendants sat in the glass-fronted dock while 26 relatives watched from the public gallery.

They were accompanied by seven security guards and other court staff, with two Slovak interpreters assisting during the hearing.

The defendants are all Slovakian nationals.

The emotional atmosphere continued as they left the dock.

According to court reports, several people in the public gallery were crying, while one woman became so distressed that the judge ordered the public seating area to be cleared.

WHO ARE THE FOUR ADULT DEFENDANTS?

Skopova, 20, is identified by prosecutors as Baby S’s mother.

Peter Horvath Jr, 19, is her boyfriend.

Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are Horvath Jr’s parents.

The baby’s father remains unknown. Prosecutors told the court that Horvath Jr was not believed to be the father.

That family connection has become an important part of the case as prosecutors prepare for trial.

THE TRIAL WILL NOT HAPPEN UNTIL 2027

Judge Sarah Wright has set a provisional trial date for April 12, 2027.

The trial is expected to last approximately six to seven weeks, underscoring the complexity of the case.

All five defendants were remanded in custody and are due to return to court for their next hearing on Oct. 2, 2026.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail, according to court reports.

A CASE THAT HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

For Baby S’s family and those following the investigation, the Crown Court hearing was another painful step in a case that has already raised deeply disturbing questions.

Four adults are accused of taking part in the newborn’s death.

They are also accused of taking steps to conceal what happened afterward.

But none of those allegations has yet been proven in court.

The CPS has specifically reminded the public that the proceedings are active and that all defendants have the right to a fair trial. A charge is not a finding of guilt.

For now, the case moves toward April 2027.

A newborn girl is at the center of the investigation. Four adults face murder charges. A teenager faces a separate allegation. And prosecutors say the story did not end with Baby S’s death — because what allegedly happened afterward could become a crucial part of the trial.
