She is the only defendant whose identity cannot legally be revealed. Now, one charge has placed a 15-year-old girl at the center of the devastating Sheffield Baby S investigation.

A shocking new detail has emerged from the case surrounding the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield — but perhaps the biggest unanswered question involves a teenager whose identity has been kept secret.

The 15-year-old girl appeared in court alongside four adults accused in connection with the death of Baby S.

Unlike the four adults, however, she is not charged with murder.

Instead, prosecutors have charged the teenager with perverting the course of justice.

Under UK law, she cannot be named because of her age.

WHAT HAPPENED TO BABY S?

The case began on Sunday, August 30, when South Yorkshire Police received reports raising concerns about the safety of a newborn baby at a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area of Sheffield.

Officers attended the address and discovered the baby.

A forensic post-mortem examination later established that Baby S had died from stab wounds.

At Sheffield Magistrates’ Court, prosecutors said the newborn had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

Her body was found wrapped in a towel inside a blue bag in an outbuilding at the property, with the court hearing that she had been discovered on top of a washing machine.

FOUR ADULTS FACE THE MOST SERIOUS CHARGES

Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, have all been charged with murder.

They also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant.

The four adults are Slovakian nationals.

Prosecutors have said Skopova is the baby’s mother, while Peter Horvath Jr is her boyfriend and is not believed to be Baby S’s father. The identity of the father remains unknown.

BUT THE 15-YEAR-OLD FACES A DIFFERENT CHARGE

The teenager is accused only of perverting the course of justice.

Exactly what prosecutors allege she did has not been publicly detailed in the official CPS statement or police announcement.

That distinction is important.

There is currently no public evidence establishing that the teenager carried out the fatal assault, and she has not been charged with murder.

During her court appearance, the girl reportedly sobbed in the dock before being remanded into youth custody. She later appeared at Sheffield Crown Court with the four adult defendants.

How did Baby S suffer such extensive injuries?

What happened inside the Sheffield property before emergency services arrived?

Why was the newborn found inside an outbuilding?

South Yorkshire Police have specifically warned members of the public against online speculation, saying that protecting the integrity of the criminal justice process is crucial to securing justice for the baby.

A TRIAL IS STILL AHEAD

The four adults and the teenage defendant remain in custody.

The four adults are due to return to court on October 2, while a provisional trial date has been set for April 12, 2027. The trial is expected to last six to seven weeks.

Until evidence is heard in court, allegations remain allegations.

But one thing is already clear:

A newborn baby was found dead. Four adults face murder charges. And a 15-year-old girl, whose name the public may never legally learn, is accused of playing a role in what happened afterward.
