A shocking detail emerged in court after four people were charged over the death of newborn Baby S in Sheffield
What began as a horrifying discovery inside a Sheffield property has now raised another disturbing question — who was Baby S’s father?
South Yorkshire Police launched a major investigation after officers were called to a property at Holywell Heights in Wincobank, Sheffield, on August 30.
Inside an outhouse, investigators discovered the body of a newborn girl, referred to in court only as Baby S.
Prosecutors later told Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that the infant had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.
Her body was reportedly wrapped in a towel, placed inside a blue bag and found on top of a washing machine.
FOUR ADULTS CHARGED
Police arrested several people as the investigation unfolded.
Four adults were subsequently charged with murder:
- Andrea Skopova, 20
- Peter Horvath Jr, 19
- Peter Horvath Sr, 38
- Nina Horvathova, 37
All four are Slovakian nationals.
They also face allegations of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.
A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice and cannot legally be named. Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder but remained on bail.
But then investigators revealed a detail that immediately raised more questions.
THE BABY’S FATHER IS UNKNOWN
According to prosecutors, Andrea Skopova is Baby S’s mother.
She was also described in court as the girlfriend of Peter Horvath Jr.
Yet prosecutors said something crucial:
Horvath Jr is not believed to be the baby’s father.
The identity of Baby S’s biological father remains unknown.
That revelation has added another unanswered question to an already deeply disturbing investigation.
It also means that despite the four adults now facing murder charges, one of the most basic details surrounding the newborn’s family has yet to be established publicly.
THE CASE WILL GO TO TRIAL
All four adults appeared at Sheffield Crown Court alongside the 15-year-old defendant.
The hearing was highly emotional, with Skopova and the teenager reportedly crying throughout the proceedings.
Judge Sarah Wright set a provisional trial date for April 12, 2027, with the trial expected to last between six and seven weeks.
The defendants remain in custody, with another hearing scheduled for October 2, 2026.
South Yorkshire Police Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward has urged the public not to speculate online, stressing the complexity of the investigation and the importance of protecting the legal process.
The four adults have been charged, but the allegations have not been proven in court and they remain entitled to a fair trial.
For now, one heartbreaking question remains unanswered:
Who was Baby S’s father — and what exactly happened inside that Sheffield home?
