ROYAL FAMILY GP HANNAH CAIN FOUND DEAD AT HOME — HUSBAND CHARGED WITH MURDER
Dr. Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr. Hannah Terry, was found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom near Sandringham. Her husband has now been charged in connection with her death.
A 45-year-old doctor who was part of a pool of GPs regularly available to members of the Royal Family has been found dead at her home near the Sandringham Estate — and her husband has been charged with her murder.
Dr. Hannah Cain, who was known professionally as Dr. Hannah Terry, was discovered at a property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.
Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
The case has shocked the local community and the medical profession, while Hannah’s family has asked for privacy as they try to cope with the loss of a woman they described as a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend.
A DISTURBING EARLY-MORNING CALL
The circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death began to emerge during Mark Cain’s appearance at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 7.
Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told the court that the ambulance service contacted police at around 2:25 a.m. on October 4.
Hannah was found in an upstairs bedroom, where paramedics discovered that she was not breathing and not conscious.
The prosecutor also told the court that children were present at the property at the time.
A Home Office post-mortem examination had initially left the formal cause of death pending further investigation. However, the court was told that the examination noted a blunt-force injury to the right side of Hannah’s head and another injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive.
HUSBAND APPEARS IN COURT
Mark Cain appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning.
During the brief hearing, he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was not required to enter a plea.
District Judge Matthew Bone remanded him in custody and sent the case to King’s Lynn Crown Court, where he was due to appear on Thursday, October 8.
Norfolk Police have confirmed that Cain was charged following the discovery of Hannah’s body at the couple’s home.
At this stage, the charge remains an allegation. Mark Cain has not been convicted of any offence and is entitled to a fair trial. The Crown Prosecution Service has specifically warned that the proceedings are active and that reporting should not prejudice the case.
WHO WAS DR. HANNAH TERRY?
Away from the investigation, Hannah was known to patients simply as Dr Terry.
She worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre and had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years, with around eight years working as a GP.
She also ran Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a private cosmetics business, alongside her medical career.
Her home in Dersingham was just over a mile from Sandringham House, one of the Royal Family’s residences.
Reports have said Hannah was part of a pool of doctors who were regularly available to members of the Royal Family in the area. ITV also reported that she served in that pool of doctors.
The connection has brought additional attention to the case, but Hannah’s colleagues have emphasized the doctor and person they knew rather than her association with the Royal Family.
A FAMILY’S HEARTBREAK
On Wednesday, Hannah’s relatives released a deeply personal tribute.
They said:
“We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful Hannah.”
They described her as “kind, generous and loving”, and said she was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend.
Her family also praised the care she gave to her patients, many of whom knew her professionally as Dr Terry.
They added that they were “incredibly proud” of the woman she was and asked the public to respect their privacy during this extremely difficult time.
MEDICAL CENTRE TEMPORARILY CLOSED
The tragedy has also deeply affected Hannah’s colleagues.
Grimston Medical Centre temporarily closed following her death, with a message to patients saying the practice was dealing with “extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.”
Flowers and tributes have been left outside the medical centre as colleagues and members of the community mourn the loss of a doctor remembered for her warmth and dedication.
An NHS tribute described Hannah as an exceptional doctor and a valued member of the primary-care community, praising her intelligence, kindness and generosity.
CHILDREN WERE AT THE PROPERTY
One of the most distressing details revealed in court was that children were present at the property when the emergency response took place.
Reports have described the house as hosting a children’s sleepover that weekend.
Hannah and Mark were parents of three boys, born in 2013, 2015 and 2018, according to reports.
Police have not publicly released further details about the children or their precise circumstances, and specialist officers are supporting Hannah’s family.
INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
Norfolk Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death.
The force has said specialist officers are supporting her family, who have asked for privacy.
The case is now moving through the criminal courts, with Mark Cain remaining in custody.
For now, many questions surrounding the events inside the Dersingham home remain unanswered.
What is clear is that a respected GP, mother and member of the local community has died, leaving behind grieving relatives, patients and colleagues.
Hannah’s family has asked people to remember her for the life she lived and the care she gave to others.
And as the legal process begins, the central facts remain subject to the investigation and court proceedings.
Mark Cain has been charged with murder. He has not entered a plea, and the charge has not been proven in court.
