EVEN ON THE FINAL DAY OF SAYING FAREWELL TO THEIR SON, THIS FAMILY WAS HIT BY ANOTHER SHOCK

The funeral of 17-year-old Cole Worthy was suddenly disrupted when police were called to the crematorium — turning an already heartbreaking farewell into another moment of turmoil for his family.

Cole Worthy was one of five young men who died in the horrific A66 wrong-way crash in Middlesbrough on August 22.

The collision also claimed the lives of two police officers, PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38, leaving seven families facing an unimaginable loss.

But when Cole’s loved ones gathered to say their final goodbye, they were confronted with yet another devastating scene.

POLICE RUSH TO THE FUNERAL

Cole’s funeral was held at Teesside Crematorium on Wednesday, September 9.

At around 12:30 p.m., Cleveland Police were called after reports of a disturbance during the service.

Officers quickly arrived at the crematorium, where a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Police later confirmed that the funeral service was able to resume.

The identity of the man was subsequently reported as Gye Worthy, Cole’s father. He was later charged with common assault, a public-order offence and obstructing police. He is due to appear before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on October 2.

A FAMILY’S FINAL GOODBYE INTERRUPTED

For Cole’s loved ones, the day was supposed to be about remembering a teenager described by his family as a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend and friend.

Instead, the service was disrupted by an incident that brought police into the crematorium.

Cole’s mother, Natalie McConnell, was reportedly left devastated and shocked by what happened during the farewell to her son.

The disturbance came amid heightened tensions surrounding the funerals of those killed in the A66 tragedy.

Police had already increased their presence across Middlesbrough following concerns about disorder connected to some of the previous funerals.

ANOTHER PAINFUL CHAPTER

Cole was only 17 years old.

His death came alongside those of Michael Robert Cahill, 23, Theo Rae, 17, Jakub Matusiak, 23, and Makai Saddington, 18, as well as officers Blades and Clough.

Now, as Cole’s family tries to come to terms with losing him, the events at his funeral have added another painful chapter to an already devastating story.

The service ultimately continued.

But for those gathered to say goodbye, the shock of seeing police arrive during such a deeply emotional moment is something they are unlikely to forget.

A day that should have been about one final goodbye became another day of turmoil — just when Cole’s family needed peace the most.
