Man Charged With Murder After Young Manhattan Mother Found Dead During Welfare Check

A 27-year-old mother was found dead inside her Manhattan apartment earlier this month, and a 41-year-old man has now been charged with her murder.

Lovay Williams, 27, of Washington Heights, was discovered dead on September 6, 2026, after police arrived at her apartment to conduct a wellness check.

According to authorities, Williams appeared to have suffered severe blows to her face and neck. The circumstances surrounding her death prompted a homicide investigation.

Tragically, Williams’s 7-year-old daughter was reportedly inside the apartment at the time of the incident.

Investigators later identified 41-year-old Tiliek Shamel Thompson as a person of interest in the case. Thompson was not immediately taken into custody, but on September 12, he voluntarily turned himself in at a police station accompanied by his attorney.

A day later, on September 13, police confirmed that Thompson had been formally charged with murder in connection with Williams’s death.

Authorities have not publicly released a motive or detailed the evidence that led investigators to charge Thompson. The circumstances of Williams’s death and the relationship, if any, between the victim and the accused remain part of the ongoing investigation.

The case has left Williams’s family and community grieving the loss of a young mother whose life was cut short inside her own home.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to establish exactly what happened before Williams was found and what led to her fatal injuries.

Thompson’s murder charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
