RAHEEM STERLING FACES COURT AFTER £270,000 LAMBORGHINI CRASH — FORMER ENGLAND STAR CHARGED WITH DANGEROUS DRIVING AND NITROUS OXIDE POSSESSION

HAMPSHIRE, England — Former England soccer star Raheem Sterling is facing serious legal trouble after being formally charged following a crash involving his £270,000 Lamborghini on a British motorway.

Sterling, 31, has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen, according to Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.

The charges stem from a May 28, 2026, single-vehicle collision on the southbound M3 near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire.

Police said no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Sterling is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15.

MOTORISTS REPORTED A LAMBORGHINI SWERVING ACROSS THE M3

The incident began shortly before 9 a.m., when motorists reportedly contacted emergency services after seeing a black Lamborghini behaving erratically on the motorway.

According to reports, the vehicle was seen swerving across lanes before eventually colliding with barriers.

Police arrested the driver, who was identified as Sterling, near the motorway interchange.

At the time, officers suspected the driver of being unfit to drive through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen.

Sterling was subsequently released on bail while the investigation continued.

Now, months after the crash, prosecutors have formally brought charges.

THE NITROUS OXIDE CHARGE

One of the charges concerns nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas.

In Britain, nitrous oxide was reclassified as a Class C controlled substance in November 2023, making possession for recreational or wrongful inhalation illegal.

The substance can produce a short-lived euphoric effect, but health authorities have warned of potentially serious consequences from misuse.

The charge against Sterling is specifically related to possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation.

Importantly, the charge itself does not establish that Sterling was intoxicated while driving. That is a matter for the evidence and court proceedings.

A £270,000 SUPERCAR — AND A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS LEGAL CASE

Sterling’s Lamborghini is reportedly worth approximately £270,000, making the crash particularly eye-catching.

But the financial value of the vehicle is secondary to the allegations now facing the former England international.

If convicted of dangerous driving, Sterling could face a maximum sentence of two years in prison, although the actual sentence in any individual case depends on the circumstances and the court’s decision.

The charge of failing to provide a specimen could also become an important part of the prosecution’s case.

Sterling has not been convicted of any offense, and the allegations will have to be proven in court.

The crash has also brought renewed attention to the difficult period Sterling has reportedly experienced away from the field.

Sterling has largely kept a low profile since the motorway incident.

Those circumstances, however, do not determine the criminal allegations against him, which will be considered separately by the court.
