Lucy Letby Reportedly Becomes More Reclusive After Death of Former Colleague

Lucy Letby has reportedly become increasingly reclusive following the death of Dr. Mark Deakin, a former colleague who was referred to as “Doctor A” during her trial.

Reports emerging on September 12, 2026, said the convicted former neonatal nurse had been spending long periods alone inside her prison cell, prompting staff to monitor her mental state more closely.

According to the reports, prison staff have also allowed Letby to miss certain mandatory classes and activities as they keep an eye on her wellbeing.

Deakin’s identity became known following his death. During Letby’s trial, he had been referred to anonymously as “Doctor A,” and reports said he had exchanged more than 1,300 Facebook messages with Letby.

Personal notes attributed to Letby reportedly revealed that she had written that she “loved” Deakin, highlighting the significance of their relationship to her.

Letby, who was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital, remains imprisoned while continuing to challenge her convictions.

The reports about her current mental state have not established what impact Deakin’s death may have had on Letby beyond the observations attributed to prison staff. Details surrounding his death and the full nature of their relationship have also been reported separately.
