BOY, 3, DIES AFTER FALLING NEARLY 65FT FROM SIXTH-FLOOR BALCONY — HIS PARENTS ARE ARRESTED

A three-year-old boy has died after falling from the sixth-floor balcony of his family’s apartment in Cyprus, with police arresting his parents as investigators work to establish exactly what happened.

TRAGEDY IN NICOSIA

The devastating incident happened in Nicosia on Saturday evening, September 12.

The little boy, who was three years and nine months old, fell from the balcony of the family’s apartment on Andrea Mitropoulou Street at around 6:15 p.m.

The height of the fall was reported to be approximately 65 feet, or nearly 20 metres.

His father immediately called for an ambulance as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

The child was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at around 6:50 p.m.

He would have celebrated his fourth birthday in December.

PARENTS ARRESTED

In the aftermath of the tragedy, police arrested the boy’s 32-year-old father and 33-year-old mother.

The parents are being held in custody while investigators examine the circumstances surrounding their son’s death.

They are facing allegations connected to causing death through a reckless, careless or dangerous act.

The arrests do not establish guilt, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are expected to question the couple during a five-day detention period as they attempt to piece together what happened inside the apartment before the fatal fall.

A post-mortem examination has also been ordered.

QUESTIONS SURROUND THE FINAL MOMENTS

Investigators have not publicly established exactly how the child came to fall from the sixth-floor balcony.

Local reports have indicated that the family may also have another child living at the apartment.

Police are now examining the scene and gathering evidence as part of the investigation.

ANOTHER CYPRUS FALL INVESTIGATION

The case comes only weeks after another child suffered a fatal fall in Cyprus.

In July, a two-year-old British boy died after falling approximately 33 feet from a hotel window at the King Evelthon Hotel near Paphos.

The child’s 37-year-old father was arrested and later charged in connection with his son’s death. He has denied wrongdoing and has asked Cyprus’ Attorney General to drop the case.

The two cases are separate investigations, but both have placed renewed attention on child safety around balconies and windows in Cyprus.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

For now, many of the most important questions remain unanswered.

Police must determine what happened in the moments before the three-year-old went over the balcony and whether anyone can be held legally responsible for his death.

The boy’s parents remain in custody as that investigation continues.
