Years after the killings that shocked Florida, Wade Wilson remains on death row as his legal battle continues — and there is still no official execution date.
The name Wade Wilson has once again become a major talking point online.
Known widely as the “Deadpool Killer” because of his name connection to the Marvel character, Wilson was sentenced to death in Florida after being convicted of killing Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, on the same day in 2019.
More than two years after his death sentence, Wilson remains incarcerated on Florida’s death row — and his legal fight is not over.
TWO WOMEN KILLED IN ONE DAY
The case dates back to October 7, 2019, when Wilson encountered two women in the Cape Coral area.
According to court records and reporting on the case, Melton was killed after Wilson met her the previous night. Hours later, he encountered Ruiz, who was walking to work.
The two women did not know each other.
Their deaths became the central focus of a case that would eventually result in Wilson being convicted of two counts of first-degree murder.
DEATH SENTENCE
A Lee County jury found Wilson guilty in June 2024.
On Aug. 27, 2024, a judge formally sentenced him to death for both killings.
Wilson was subsequently transferred to Florida’s death row, where he remains incarcerated while his appeals move through the courts.
NO EXECUTION DATE HAS BEEN SET
Despite the death sentence, Wilson does not currently have an official execution date.
His case remains tied up in the appellate process, meaning the legal proceedings could continue for years before Florida could carry out the sentence.
Recent reports continue to identify his mandatory appeal as pending before the Florida Supreme Court.

Interest in Wilson’s case has surged again after Netflix featured him in the second season of Worst Ex Ever, introducing the case to a new international audience.
