A 4-YEAR-OLD BOY VANISHED FROM A REMOTE AUSTRALIAN FARM — MONTHS LATER, POLICE STILL DON’T KNOW WHERE GUS IS

August “Gus” Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote South Australian sheep station in September 2025. After months of searching, police have identified a suspect — but the little boy has still not been found.

For a family living on a vast sheep station in the Australian outback, September 27, 2025 began like an ordinary day.

Then, sometime between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont disappeared.

He was playing outside at the family’s remote Oak Park Station property near Yunta, South Australia. His grandmother later went outside to call him in.

He was gone.

And despite one of the largest searches in South Australian history, there has still been no confirmed sighting of Gus.

According to information provided to police, Gus was last seen playing on a mound of dirt near the family homestead at around 5 p.m.

About 30 minutes later, his grandmother went to get him.

He had vanished.

The property is enormous and extremely remote, surrounded by rugged outback terrain. Police, emergency crews, defence personnel, Indigenous trackers and volunteers launched an extensive search.

Investigators searched the property and surrounding areas, including dams and mine shafts, while helicopters and drones were also used.

More than 160 South Australian Police personnel and hundreds of additional resources were involved during the wider search effort.

But Gus was nowhere to be found.

For months, police investigated several possibilities.

At first, one possibility was that the little boy had wandered away from the homestead.

But by February 2026, investigators said they had found no evidence that Gus had simply wandered off.

Police also said there was no evidence indicating that an unknown person had abducted him.

Instead, investigators began focusing on the possibility that someone known to Gus was involved.

On February 5, South Australia Police formally declared the disappearance a major crime.

Detectives revealed that a person who had lived at Oak Park Station had stopped cooperating with investigators and was now considered a suspect.

Police also stressed that Gus’ parents were not suspects.

POLICE SEIZED VEHICLES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Investigators had already carried out a search warrant at the property in January.

During that search, police seized a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices as they examined the circumstances surrounding Gus’ disappearance.

Detectives also said they had discovered inconsistencies and discrepancies in information provided during the investigation.

But identifying a suspect did not immediately answer the biggest question:

Where is Gus?

ANOTHER SEARCH — AND STILL NO ANSWER

Police returned to Oak Park Station again in February to search for further evidence.

Later searches continued as investigators examined locations across the remote property.

In a subsequent operation, Task Force Horizon officers returned to the station for another intensive search.

But the renewed operation ended without the breakthrough investigators and Gus’ family were desperately hoping for.

Seven months after Gus disappeared, police said the investigation remained active but there had still been no major breakthrough.

By the eight-month mark, another search had again failed to produce the answer everyone was waiting for.

A FAMILY STILL WAITING

Gus’ disappearance has left his family facing a nightmare that has stretched on for months.

His grandmother has continued to express hope that someone will eventually provide information that explains what happened to the little boy.

In March, six months after Gus vanished, his grandmother said the family remained hopeful that crucial information could eventually come to light.

For the family, there is still one unanswered question above everything else:

What happened to Gus after he disappeared from the property that afternoon?

Police have not publicly named the suspect and no person has been convicted in connection with Gus’ disappearance.

The investigation remains ongoing.

And somewhere behind all the unanswered questions is a four-year-old boy whose family has been waiting for answers since September 2025.

Gus Lamont has still not been found.

His family is still waiting.
Police are still investigating.
And the mystery surrounding that missing half-hour remains.
