A multi-billion-dollar luxury development linked to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner was once praised as a major boost for tourism in Albania, but it has now triggered over 100 days of fierce public backlash. What started as environmental opposition to a high-end resort has evolved into a massive, nationwide movement known locally as the “Flamingo Revolution”.

Protesters are taking to the streets to oppose the destruction of one of Europe’s last pristine coastal wildernesses. Earmarked for construction in protected nature reserves like Sazan Island and the Vjosa-Narta Lagoon, the proposed complex threatens key nesting habitats for endangered migratory birds and sea turtles.
