4-YEAR-OLD GUS LAMONT VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE — POLICE STILL HAVE A SUSPECT

Four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote Australian property nearly a year ago. Despite one of the country’s largest searches for a missing child, Gus has never been found — and police are now investigating someone who was known to him.

Gus was last seen on September 27, 2025, at Oak Park Station, a remote sheep property in South Australia, about 40 kilometers from Yunta.

According to police, the little boy had been playing outside at the family property. When his grandmother went to call him inside roughly 30 minutes later, he was gone.

What followed was an enormous search operation across the isolated Australian outback.

A MASSIVE SEARCH FOR A LITTLE BOY

Police, emergency workers, defense personnel, specialist search teams, an Indigenous tracker and community volunteers all joined the effort to find Gus.

South Australia Police said the search involved 163 police personnel and around 230 additional resources.

Investigators searched the vast area surrounding Oak Park Station, including three dams and six mine shafts within a 10-kilometer radius of the homestead.

Extensive aerial searches were also carried out.

But Gus remained missing.

Police initially considered the possibility that the four-year-old had wandered away from the property. They also investigated the possibility that someone unknown to the family had abducted him.

As the investigation developed, however, authorities began focusing on someone much closer to home.

POLICE IDENTIFY A SUSPECT

On February 5, 2026, South Australia Police announced that Gus’ disappearance had been declared a major crime.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators had identified “inconsistencies and discrepancies” while examining information about Gus’ movements around the time he disappeared.

One person who had been living at Oak Park Station subsequently stopped cooperating with police.

Authorities said that person was now considered a suspect in Gus’ disappearance.

Police specifically emphasized that Gus’ parents were not suspects.

During a January search of the property, police seized several items, including a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices, as investigators continued examining what happened to the little boy.

THE SEARCH DID NOT END THERE

Months after Gus vanished, detectives returned to Oak Park Station for another extensive search.

In May 2026, police conducted a three-day search of the property in an attempt to locate new evidence.

But investigators later confirmed that the search had not uncovered additional evidence relating to Gus’ disappearance.

Detective Superintendent Fielke said one of Gus’ grandparents remained a suspect in the investigation.

Police have continued to work through information involving hundreds of people who were in or around Oak Park Station around the time Gus disappeared.

Authorities said they had identified more than 500 people who were in the area on September 27 and were working through those individuals as part of the investigation.

HIS FAMILY CONTINUES TO WAIT

Gus’ disappearance has left his family facing one of the most painful questions imaginable:

Where is their little boy?

His grandparents have publicly maintained that the family has cooperated with police and wants nothing more than to find Gus and bring him home.

The identification of a suspect has not provided the family with the answer they have been waiting for.

Gus has still not been located.

And despite months of searching, authorities have not publicly established exactly what happened to him.

ALMOST A YEAR WITHOUT ANSWERS

By late August 2026, Gus had been missing for almost 11 months.

Police had conducted extensive searches involving specialist personnel, aircraft, dogs, Indigenous trackers and volunteers, but the four-year-old remained missing.

The investigation remains active.

Police have continued to appeal for information and have indicated that further aerial searches may be carried out as investigators follow new leads.

For Gus’ family, every passing month brings another painful milestone.

A little boy who disappeared while playing outside his family’s remote home has never been found.

His parents are still waiting.

His relatives are still searching for answers.

And investigators are still trying to determine what happened on September 27, 2025.
