THE VOICE UK INTRODUCES SHOCK ‘LOCKDOWN’ TWIST AFTER TOM JONES EXIT — EVERYTHING IS CHANGING

LONDON — Fans of The Voice UK are facing a major shake-up as producers introduce a brand-new “Lockdown Button” for the upcoming 15th series — replacing the recently introduced Rewind Button and changing what happens when a contestant gets all four coaches to turn their chairs.

The reported format change comes just days after ITV confirmed a completely revamped coaching and presenting line-up, including the departure of longtime coach Sir Tom Jones.

A NEW BUTTON CHANGES THE FOUR-CHAIR TURN

The new Lockdown Button is reportedly designed to make four-chair turns even more unpredictable.

Under the reported format, when all four coaches turn for a contestant during the Blind Auditions, one of the coaches can press the Lockdown Button and immediately secure that singer for their team.

That means the contestant would no longer necessarily get the familiar opportunity to hear all four coaches make their pitches before deciding which team to join.

Instead, the power could shift directly to the coaches.

The change effectively replaces the Rewind Button, which was introduced during the current series but will not return for the next run.

The reported twist could therefore transform one of the show’s most dramatic moments: a four-chair turn would no longer simply be about which coach can convince the singer to choose them.

The coaches could now have the ability to make the decision much earlier.

TOM JONES’ SHOCK DEPARTURE

The format overhaul comes amid the highly publicized departure of Sir Tom Jones, who has been associated with The Voice UK since its launch in 2012.

The 86-year-old music legend recently said that he did not want to leave the programme and claimed that ITV had made the decision to remove him from the full-time coaching line-up.

Jones said the reason given to him involved financial difficulties connected with insurance. He also said ITV had publicly described the change as an attempt to refresh the programme with a new coaching line-up.

ITV, meanwhile, thanked Jones for his years on the programme and confirmed that he would no longer be a full-time coach for Series 15, while saying discussions about possible involvement with the next series were continuing.

His departure has generated significant attention among viewers and fellow members of the show’s team.

During filming, fellow coach will.i.am reportedly became emotional while paying tribute to Jones, adding another emotional layer to the major transition.

A COMPLETELY NEW COACHING LINE-UP

Series 15 will look very different when it returns in 2027.

According to ITV’s official announcement, Cheryl and Aitch will make their coaching debuts, joining returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

The changes extend beyond the famous red chairs.

Longtime presenter Emma Willis is leaving the programme, while Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will take over as co-hosts.

McFly’s Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones are also leaving the coaching line-up.

ITV described the new panel as a fresh combination of musical experience and competitive energy as the programme searches for its next major vocal talent.

The Lockdown Button could fundamentally alter the contestants’ experience during the Blind Auditions.

Previously, when multiple coaches turned their chairs, the contestant could listen to their pitches and ultimately choose which coach they wanted to work with.

Under the reported new system, a coach could potentially press Lockdown after a four-chair turn and immediately secure the contestant.

The change has not been presented by ITV as a permanent alteration to every stage of the competition, but reports indicate that it will form part of the Blind Audition format for the upcoming series.
