7-DAY-OLD BABY JASON ANTHONY WEAVER’S STORY LEAVES COMMUNITY HEARTBROKEN AS FATHER IS SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS

MARKLE, INDIANA — Jason Anthony Weaver was only seven days old when his life came to a heartbreaking end, leaving behind a family and community struggling to comprehend the loss of a baby who had barely begun his life.

Jason was born on August 28, 2025, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Violet Weaver and Austin Kinsey. His family remembered him as a beloved little boy whose time on Earth was far too short.

According to his obituary, Jason loved the sounds of rock ‘n’ roll and country music, and one of the songs he enjoyed was “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” His family wrote that although his life was brief, he would be loved forever.

A TRAGEDY INSIDE THE FAMILY HOME

On September 4, 2025, emergency responders were called to the family’s home in rural Markle after reports that the newborn was having difficulty breathing.

Investigators determined that Jason had been attacked by the family’s dog, a five-year-old husky-pit bull mix named Chomp.

According to court records cited by news organizations, Jason’s father said he had been playing video games in the same room as the baby before briefly leaving the room to speak with family members.

Jason’s grandfather, Timothy Kinsey, later heard noises and went into the room, where he discovered the dog with the infant. Relatives called for emergency help, and officers attempted lifesaving measures before paramedics arrived.

Jason could not be saved.

THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED MORE QUESTIONS

What initially appeared to be a tragic incident involving the family pet eventually led investigators to examine the wider circumstances surrounding the household.

Court records described serious concerns about the condition of the Markle residence, including accumulated trash, dirty dishes and other unsanitary conditions. Authorities later determined that the property was not suitable for habitation.

Investigators also examined the history and behavior of Chomp. The dog was subsequently euthanized, while other dogs were removed from the property.

The latest development came in September 2026, when Jason’s father, Austin Kinsey, was sentenced to 16 years in prison following a plea agreement involving child neglect and the unlawful harboring of a non-immunized dog that caused injury.
