4-YEAR-OLD GUS LAMONT VANISHED FROM HIS REMOTE HOME — MONTHS LATER, A FAMILY MEMBER REMAINS A SUSPECT

The disappearance of four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont has taken a disturbing turn after police identified a person known to the little boy as a suspect.

Gus disappeared from his family’s remote property at Oak Park Station in South Australia on September 27, 2025.

Despite one of the largest search operations ever carried out by South Australia Police, the little boy has never been found.

More than eight months later, the case remains unresolved.

GUS DISAPPEARED IN MINUTES

Gus was last seen at around 5 p.m. on September 27 while playing outside the family’s remote sheep station, approximately 40 kilometres south of Yunta.

According to police, his grandmother later went outside to call him inside.

But Gus was gone.

His disappearance was reported to police that evening, triggering an enormous search across the remote Australian outback.

Search teams covered vast areas surrounding the property, including dams, mine shafts and difficult outback terrain.

Police, emergency personnel, defence resources, Indigenous trackers and community volunteers were involved.

Authorities said the operation involved 163 South Australia Police members and another 230 non-police resources.

Yet no confirmed trace of Gus was found.

POLICE LATER CHANGED THEIR THEORY

Initially, investigators considered the possibility that Gus had wandered away from the property.

But after months of investigation, police said they had found no physical or other evidence suggesting that the boy simply wandered off.

They also said they had found no evidence supporting an abduction by an unknown person.

Instead, investigators began focusing on the possibility that someone known to Gus was involved.

In February 2026, South Australia Police declared the case a major crime investigation.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators had identified “inconsistencies and discrepancies” in information surrounding Gus’s disappearance.

One person who lived at Oak Park Station subsequently stopped cooperating with police and became a suspect.

Police stressed that Gus’s parents were not suspects.

 POLICE RETURNED TO THE PROPERTY

Investigators have repeatedly returned to Oak Park Station searching for evidence.

In January, police executed a search warrant and seized a vehicle, motorcycle and electronic devices.

A renewed three-day search was carried out at the property in May following significant rainfall.

However, police later said the latest operation had not uncovered new evidence connected to Gus’s disappearance.

Detective Superintendent Fielke said one of Gus’s grandparents remained a suspect.

Police also said they had received more than 500 calls to Crime Stoppers and were continuing to work through information about people who were in or around Oak Park Station around the time Gus disappeared.

 GUS’S FAMILY IS STILL WAITING FOR ANSWERS

Gus’s parents, Jess and Joshua Lamont, have repeatedly appealed for information that could explain what happened to their son.

In a statement released months after his disappearance, they described their lives as shattered and pleaded with anyone who knew something to come forward.

They said even the smallest detail could potentially help investigators understand what happened to their little boy.

The family has continued to face months of uncertainty without knowing where Gus is or what happened to him.

 A GRANDMOTHER DENIES INVOLVEMENT

In June, Gus’s grandmother Josie Murray publicly denied involvement in his disappearance.

Murray said police had a theory that she may have buried her grandson following an accident, an allegation she described as “ludicrous.”

She maintained that she had nothing to do with Gus’s disappearance and argued that investigators should consider other possibilities.

Police have not publicly established that this alleged theory is what happened to Gus.

No one has been charged in connection with his disappearance.

THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS CONTINUES

More than a year after Gus was last seen, the central questions remain unanswered.

Where did the little boy go?

What happened after he disappeared from Oak Park Station?

And why has the extensive search failed to locate him?

For investigators, the case remains active.

For Gus’s parents, however, it is something much more personal: months of uncertainty without their little boy.

Police have said they will continue investigating the disappearance and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Gus was only four years old when he vanished. His family is still waiting for the one thing they have wanted from the beginning — answers about what happened to their little boy.
