NEWBORN BABY FOUND DEAD IN SHEFFIELD — FOUR PEOPLE ACCUSED OF MURDER AS COURT SETS 2027 TRIAL

A newborn baby girl died in Sheffield after suffering fatal stab wounds, with four adults now facing murder charges in a case that has shocked the local community.

The baby, who can only be identified publicly as Baby S, was found at a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Her mother, Andrea Skopova, 20, is among those accused, alongside her boyfriend Peter Horvath Jr, 19, and his parents, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37. All four are Slovakian nationals.

POLICE WERE CALLED OVER CONCERNS FOR A NEWBORN

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to a property on Holywell Heights after receiving reports raising concern for the safety of a newborn baby.

Officers searched the property and located the baby.

Despite efforts by emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A forensic post-mortem later established that the baby’s death was caused by stab wounds, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

FOUR ADULTS FACE MURDER CHARGES

Prosecutors have charged Skopova, Peter Horvath Jr, Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova with:

• murder;
• causing or allowing the death of a child; and
• perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal the killing.

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot legally be named, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail.

The charges are allegations and have not been proved in court.

WHAT THE COURT HEARD

At an earlier hearing, prosecutors told Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that Baby S had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

The court heard that her body was found wrapped in a towel inside a blue bag at an outbuilding at the Holywell Heights property.

The baby’s mother is Skopova, prosecutors said. The identity of the father was unknown, and Peter Horvath Jr was not believed to be the father.

The four adults were subsequently brought before Sheffield Crown Court.

A 15-YEAR-OLD IS ALSO ACCUSED

The teenage defendant, who cannot be named because of her age, faces a separate allegation of perverting the course of justice.

She appeared in court alongside the four adults and was also remanded in custody.

During the hearing, Skopova and the teenager were reported to have become emotional.

Members of the defendants’ families were also present in the public gallery.

TRIAL SET FOR APRIL 2027

Judge Sarah Wright set a provisional trial date of April 12, 2027.

The trial is expected to last approximately six to seven weeks.

All five defendants were remanded in custody, with the next hearing scheduled for October 2, 2026.

The court process will now determine what happened to Baby S and what evidence, if any, connects each defendant to her death.

POLICE URGE PUBLIC NOT TO SPECULATE

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward said the investigation remained complex and thanked the community for supporting officers.

He also urged people not to speculate publicly about the circumstances of the case or post unverified information online.

Police said protecting the integrity of the criminal justice process remains important as the investigation and court proceedings continue.

Flowers and tributes have been left near the Holywell Heights property as the community mourns the death of the newborn.

For now, Baby S remains at the center of a criminal investigation that will continue through the coming months, with four adults facing the most serious possible charge and a trial scheduled for next year.
