Former Pennsylvania Police Officer Charged After Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Man

On August 23, 2026, police officer Sean Farrell responded to a home in Upper Pottsgrove Township after a 911 call reported a possible break-in.

According to body-camera footage, Farrell encountered 22-year-old Glenwood “Bubba” Pysher standing in the backyard. Farrell ordered Pysher to raise his hands and get down on the ground. Pysher raised his hands and then began walking toward the officer.

Farrell repeatedly ordered him to stop. Moments later, the officer fired two shots, striking Pysher in the chest.

The subsequent investigation determined that Pysher was unarmed and was approximately 17 to 20 feet away from Farrell when the shots were fired. Investigators found no gun or other weapon at the scene.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office later concluded that Farrell’s use of deadly force was not lawful. Prosecutors said the circumstances did not justify the shooting and noted that the officer had less-lethal options available, including a Taser, but did not use them.

The findings led to criminal charges against Farrell nearly a week later.

On September 1, Farrell turned himself in and was charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with Pysher’s death. His bail was set at $75,000.

The case has raised questions about the use of force during police responses to suspected break-ins, particularly when an individual is unarmed and less-lethal options are available.

Farrell’s criminal charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The legal proceedings will determine whether the evidence supports the prosecution’s case against him.
