NOAH WOODS, 3, VANISHED DURING AN ORDINARY PLAYGROUND VISIT — A COMMUNITY’S DESPERATE SEARCH ENDED IN HEARTBREAK

What began as an ordinary playground visit ended in tragedy for the family of three-year-old Noah Woods after the little boy disappeared in Brantham, Suffolk.

Noah had been visiting the playground at Merriam Close with a relative on the afternoon of September 15 when the two became separated. Police said the last confirmed CCTV sighting showed Noah at the playground at around 2:37 p.m.

The three-year-old was then reported to have run down an alleyway beside the playground toward a nearby housing development and Decoy Pond, a lake in the village.

A DESPERATE SEARCH BRINGS THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER

News of Noah’s disappearance quickly spread through Brantham, prompting an extraordinary community response.

Police search teams, specialist officers, dogs, helicopters, the coastguard, firefighters, ambulance personnel and specialist divers joined the operation.

Around 1,300 members of the public also helped search the village and surrounding areas, with some people travelling from outside Suffolk to take part.

Police had described Noah as non-verbal and partially deaf, adding to concerns about the difficulty of locating him. CCTV footage from the playground was released as officers appealed for residents to check doorbell cameras, private CCTV and dashcam recordings.

His family continued hoping he would be found safe.

THE DISCOVERY AT DECOY POND

On the afternoon of September 16, Metropolitan Police dive officers searching Decoy Pond recovered the body of a child.

The discovery came after more than 24 hours of intensive searching and left the community devastated.

Suffolk Police formally confirmed on September 17 that the body was Noah Woods, subject to confirmation through the formal inquest process. Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious, although several inquiries remained to be completed before a file would be submitted to the coroner.

“WE ARE ALL ABSOLUTELY HEARTBROKEN”

Following the confirmation, Noah’s father, Rhys Woods, shared an emotional tribute to his son.

He described Noah as the “sweetest and most innocent little boy” and said there were no words to describe the family’s pain.

Rhys thanked the emergency services and the thousands of people who had searched for Noah, saying the compassion shown to the family would never be forgotten.

“Noah, you will be loved forever, you will never be forgotten,” his father wrote in the tribute.

Flowers, balloons, teddy bears and Bluey-themed items have since been left near the playground where Noah was last seen.

The tragedy has deeply affected Brantham, where residents had spent hours searching together and hoping for a safe ending.

Instead, a desperate search for a missing three-year-old ended with a community mourning a little boy whose life had only just begun.
