ITV REPORTEDLY SCRAPS A MAJOR PART OF THE BLIND AUDITIONS AS THE SHOW ENTERS A NEW ERA WITHOUT SIR TOM JONES

The Voice UK is heading into a major new era, with ITV introducing a dramatic “Lockdown Button” twist for the show’s next series following the departure of longtime coach Sir Tom Jones.

The reported format change will affect one of the most anticipated moments of the Blind Auditions — the coveted four-chair turn.

According to reports, the new Lockdown Button will replace the Rewind Button introduced during the current series and will change what happens when all four coaches turn their chairs for a contestant.

A NEW TWIST FOR FOUR-CHAIR TURNS

Under the reported new format, when an act manages to convince all four coaches to turn around, one of the coaches can activate the Lockdown Button.

If used, the button automatically secures the contestant for that coach’s team.

That means the singer would no longer go through the familiar stage in which all four coaches pitch themselves before the performer chooses which team to join.

Instead, the power could shift to the coaches.

The dramatic moment would therefore become a race to see whether one of them uses the Lockdown Button before the singer gets the chance to make the final decision.

THE REWIND BUTTON IS BEING DROPPED

The Lockdown Button reportedly replaces the Rewind Button, which was introduced for the current series.

The Rewind feature gave each coach one opportunity during the Blind Auditions to bring back an act who had finished their performance without receiving a chair turn.

That twist will not return for the next series, according to reports.

The new system represents a significant change to the way four-chair turns are handled.

Rather than the contestant having the final say after hearing the coaches’ arguments, a coach could potentially secure the singer immediately.

TOM JONES’ DEPARTURE

The reported format shake-up comes shortly after ITV announced a major overhaul of the show’s coaching panel.

Sir Tom Jones, who first joined The Voice UK in 2012, will not return as a full-time coach for Series 15.

The 86-year-old music legend has said that he did not want to leave and that ITV made the decision.

ITV, meanwhile, thanked Jones for his years on the programme and described him as an “irreplaceable” part of the show’s history.

Jones’ departure means viewers will see a very different panel when the next series arrives.

CHERYL AND AITCH JOIN THE PANEL

ITV has officially confirmed that Cheryl and Aitch will join returning coach Kelly Rowland and longtime coach will.i.am for Series 15.

The broadcaster also confirmed a new presenting team.

Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will take over hosting duties, replacing Emma Willis.

McFly’s Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones are also leaving the coaching panel.

Series 15 is scheduled to broadcast in 2027.
