FOUR PEOPLE ACCUSED IN NEWBORN BABY’S DEATH NOW FACE ANOTHER SERIOUS ALLEGATION — AND IT CENTRES ON WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARD

A shocking newborn death in Sheffield has taken another disturbing turn, with four people accused of murder now facing additional charges alleging that steps were taken to conceal what happened to the baby.

Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are accused of murdering a newborn girl known only as Baby S.

But prosecutors allege the case did not end with the baby’s death.

The four adults also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the alleged killing, including cleaning the scene.

A 15-year-old girl has also been charged with perverting the course of justice. Because of her age, she cannot legally be named.

THE DISCOVERY THAT SHOCKED SHEFFIELD

Police were called to a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on the morning of August 30 after concerns were raised about the safety of a newborn.

The court heard that Baby S had been born at 37 weeks in the early hours of that morning.

Medical staff later alerted police after the baby’s mother, Skopova, arrived at hospital.

Officers searched the relevant addresses and eventually found the newborn in an outbuilding.

Prosecutors told the court that Baby S had been wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag before being found on top of a washing machine.

The baby had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings, with injuries to her face and torso, both front and back. A doctor told the court that she would have been alive when the attack occurred.

A potential weapon has reportedly been recovered and is being examined, while investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage.

AN EMOTIONAL COURTROOM

The four adult defendants appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on September 3 alongside the 15-year-old girl.

The atmosphere inside the courtroom was highly emotional.

The five defendants sat in a glass-fronted dock surrounded by seven security guards and two Slovak interpreters, while 26 relatives watched from the public gallery.

Skopova and the teenage girl reportedly cried during the hearing, while members of the gallery were also visibly distressed. At one point, a woman was reported to have cried uncontrollably as the defendants left the dock.

The court heard that Skopova is Baby S’s mother.

She is also the girlfriend of Peter Horvath Jr, who is the son of Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova. Prosecutors said Horvath Jr is not believed to be the baby’s father, whose identity remains unknown.

THE TRIAL IS NOW SET

Judge Sarah Wright scheduled the trial to begin on April 12, 2027.

The proceedings are expected to last between six and seven weeks.

All five defendants were remanded in custody, with another hearing scheduled for October 2.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail as the investigation continues.

South Yorkshire Police Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward has urged members of the public not to speculate or share information online that could interfere with the criminal proceedings.

The Crown Prosecution Service has also stressed that the proceedings are active and that all defendants have the right to a fair trial.

For now, investigators are still working to establish exactly what happened to Baby S — and what happened inside the home before and after her death.

The allegations surrounding the alleged concealment of the crime add another disturbing layer to a case that has already shocked the Sheffield community.

The four adults and the teenager are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
