MISSING GUS LAMONT, 4, SEARCH ROCKED BY NEW AERIAL CLUES AS $1 MILLION REWARD IS OFFERED

Nearly a year after four-year-old Gus Lamont vanished from a remote Australian sheep station, investigators have announced a dramatic new development — a $1 million reward for information that could finally reveal what happened to the little boy.

South Australia Police have also identified previously unnoticed “anomalies” in aerial imagery, raising the possibility that investigators could return to parts of the vast property in search of new evidence.

But despite months of searches, police still have no confirmed explanation for Gus’s disappearance.

GUS VANISHED FROM HIS FAMILY’S REMOTE PROPERTY

Police have previously said the four-year-old was last seen near the homestead before he was reported missing later that afternoon.

His disappearance triggered one of the largest and most intensive missing-person investigations ever undertaken by South Australia Police.

More than 11 individual ground searches were conducted over 30 days, alongside aerial operations involving aircraft, drones and specialist imaging equipment.

Yet no confirmed trace of Gus has been found.

NEW “ANOMALIES” FOUND IN AERIAL IMAGES

Detectives from Task Force Horizon have recently carried out a painstaking manual review of aerial imagery from the property.

According to Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, investigators identified several “anomalies” during that process.

Police have not publicly disclosed exactly what the anomalies are or said that they represent Gus.

However, the findings could lead investigators to conduct another search of the enormous property.

The new development comes almost exactly one year after Gus disappeared.

$1 MILLION REWARD ANNOUNCED

On September 23, the South Australian government announced a reward of up to $1 million AUD.

The money is available for information that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Gus’s disappearance and/or the recovery of his remains.

Police say the reward is intended to encourage anyone who knows something — even information they may previously have considered insignificant — to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Fielke described the amount as potentially life-changing and urged anyone with relevant information to contact investigators.

POLICE SAY SOMEONE MAY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED

Gus’s parents, Josh Lamont and Jess Murray, have now spoken publicly for the first time since their son’s disappearance.

In an emotional video appeal, they said they were desperate for answers and urged anyone with information to cooperate with police.

Josh said the family believed someone knows what happened to Gus and may know where he is.

Jess described her son as a sweet and unique little boy who loved music, stories and playing outdoors.

She also said Gus should have celebrated his fifth birthday during the time he has been missing.

POLICE DO NOT BELIEVE GUS SIMPLY WANDERED AWAY

Despite the enormous search effort, investigators have said they do not believe Gus simply wandered away from the property.

They have also said there is currently no evidence supporting the theory that he was abducted by an unknown person.

Instead, police have previously stated that their investigation remains focused on the possibility that someone known to Gus was involved in his disappearance and suspected death.

Police also confirmed that one of Gus’s grandparents remains a suspect in the investigation. Authorities have not publicly accused that person of a crime, and the investigation remains ongoing.

THE EAGLE THEORY

In the days leading up to the anniversary, Gus’s grandmother Josie Murray publicly raised another possibility — that a wedge-tailed eagle could potentially have carried the child away.

She acknowledged that the idea was highly unlikely, but said the family intended to examine eagle nests on the property.

The theory has not been endorsed by South Australia Police as an explanation for Gus’s disappearance.

Police are urging the public to provide information rather than speculation or conspiracy theories, warning that unverified claims can divert investigators away from useful leads.

ALMOST ONE YEAR, AND STILL NO ANSWERS

For Gus’s family, almost 12 months have passed without knowing what happened to their son.

The $1 million reward and the discovery of new anomalies in aerial imagery have now created a fresh opportunity for investigators to revisit the case.

But police have stressed that the new imagery does not yet provide an answer.

For now, Gus remains missing.

His parents are still waiting for the one piece of information that could finally explain how their four-year-old son disappeared from a remote Australian property — and where he is today.
