Fourteen-month-old Azalia Jolene Montgomery was surrounded by love from the moment she entered the world — and her family will carry that love with them forever.

Born on May 25 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, to Trevor and Alyxis Montgomery, Azalia brought a special light into her family’s life. She was especially close to her parents and big sister, Amelia, who loved checking in on her little sister.

Azalia’s short life was filled with the simple moments that became precious memories: warm baths, gentle head and foot rubs, cuddles with her favorite stuffed animals, and countless kisses from the people who loved her most.

She loved listening to the sound of rain and ocean waves and had a special fondness for darker shades of purple and pink. Her favorite show was Elinor Wonders Why, and some of her happiest moments were spent simply being beside Mommy, Daddy, and Amelia.

But behind those treasured memories was a little girl whose family had spent every day holding onto hope and cherishing every moment they were given with her.

Then, late in the evening on August 11, Azalia’s light was gone.

She was just 14 months old.

For Trevor, Alyxis, and Amelia, the loss left a silence that words cannot fully describe.

“Our sweet girl filled our lives with a love we will never forget,” her family shared. “Every smile, every cuddle, every little moment with her will always be part of our hearts.”

Though Azalia’s time with her family was far too short, the love surrounding her never wavered. Her parents, sister, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins will continue to remember the little girl who brought so much warmth into their lives.

Her family hopes that when people remember Azalia, they remember more than the sadness of losing her. They remember her laughter, her favorite colors, the sound of her favorite show, her love of rain and ocean waves, and the comfort she found in being held by those she loved.

“We will always miss her, love her, and remember our Sweet Girl,” her family said.

And in a final message of love, they left words that perfectly capture the hope and strength they will carry forward:

“Let her sleep, for when she wakes, she will move mountains.”
