WADE WILSON’S DEATH SENTENCE REMAINS IN PLACE AS HIS CAPITAL APPEAL CONTINUES — BUT NO EXECUTION DATE HAS BEEN SET
Wade Wilson remains on Florida’s death row as his legal battle continues, with his direct appeal still pending before the Florida Supreme Court.
Wilson was sentenced to death for the 2019 murders of two women in Lee County, Florida. His case has attracted enormous attention online, but despite repeated claims circulating on social media, there is currently no publicly scheduled execution date for him.
HIS CASE REMAINS BEFORE THE FLORIDA SUPREME COURT
Wilson’s direct appeal is being considered in the case Wade Steven Wilson v. State of Florida, SC2024-1345.
The Florida Supreme Court heard oral arguments earlier in 2026, but an oral argument does not itself decide an appeal. The court must issue its ruling before the direct appellate process reaches its next stage.
One of Wilson’s attorneys, Laurel Cornell Niles, also withdrew as co-counsel in May 2026, according to the current court docket.
NO EXECUTION DATE HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
Florida has carried out multiple executions during 2026, including several in September.
However, Wilson does not appear among prisoners with an active execution warrant in the current public death-warrant information reviewed.
The Death Penalty Information Center’s 2026 records list recent Florida executions and upcoming warrants, but do not list Wilson with a scheduled execution date.
That means social-media claims suggesting that Wilson has already been given a specific execution date are not supported by the current public record.
WHY THE CASE CONTINUES TO ATTRACT ATTENTION
Wilson’s case has generated an unusually large online following because of the circumstances of the murders, his death sentences and his courtroom appearances.
Social-media discussions have also given him the nickname “Deadpool Killer,” a reference to his first and middle names rather than any connection to the Marvel character.
The intense online attention, however, has also produced conflicting and sometimes inaccurate claims about the status of his case.
For now, the legal position is straightforward: Wilson remains sentenced to death, his direct appeal remains unresolved, and no execution date has been publicly set.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The next significant development is expected to be a ruling from the Florida Supreme Court on Wilson’s direct appeal.
Until that decision is issued, his death sentence remains in place while the appellate process continues.
Any future execution date would depend on the outcome of the legal proceedings and the subsequent death-warrant process.
