BATTERY CAUSE REVEALED AFTER MOTHER AND THREE CHILDREN DIE IN DEVASTATING HOUSE FIRE

BATTERY CAUSE REVEALED AFTER MOTHER AND THREE CHILDREN DIE IN DEVASTATING HOUSE FIRE
The cause of the devastating house fire that claimed the lives of a mother and her three children in Bootle, England, has now been revealed.
Elisha Brabin, 36, and her children — Leo, 16, Ellis, 8, and Prudence, 7 — died after a fire tore through their family home in the early hours of September 22.
Investigators have now determined that the blaze was caused by an electrical event involving a lithium-ion battery.
The battery entered a process known as thermal runaway, in which a battery generates more heat than it can safely release, causing its temperature to rise rapidly and uncontrollably.
THE FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE EARLY HOURS
Emergency services were called to the family’s home on Stone Square at around 3:45 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the property well alight.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the house and began searching for anyone trapped inside.
A person found outside the property was taken to hospital with burn injuries.
Inside an upstairs bedroom, firefighters discovered Elisha and her three children. All four were later confirmed dead at the scene.
Neighbors had reportedly heard screaming and attempted to help, with some trying to reach the family before firefighters arrived.
The tragedy left the local community in shock.
THE BATTERY WAS FROM AN E-SCOOTER
Initial statements from the fire service identified only a lithium-ion battery as the source.
A subsequent investigation established that the battery was from an e-scooter.
According to Sky News, the battery was not inside the scooter when the fire began and was believed to have been charging at the time.
Fire investigators said an electrical event caused the battery to enter thermal runaway, producing an intense and rapidly developing fire.
Authorities have stressed that lithium-ion batteries can pose a serious fire risk when damaged, defective or used with unsuitable charging equipment.
A FAMILY REMEMBERED WITH LOVE
Following the tragedy, Elisha’s relatives described her as a devoted mother who lived for her children.
In a statement released through Merseyside Police, the family said Elisha was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece and cousin.
They described Leo, Ellis and Prudence as children who were “loved beyond measure” and brought happiness and laughter to their family.
“The tragic loss of Elisha and our three precious children has left us heartbroken,” the family said.
They asked for privacy while they tried to cope with the devastating loss.
NEIGHBORS TRIED TO HELP
The fire has also left a lasting impact on people living nearby.
Residents told reporters that neighbors attempted to help after hearing cries from inside the property.
Some reportedly tried to get ladders and break windows in an effort to reach those trapped inside.
One neighbor described the community as being deeply affected by the tragedy, saying people had tried to help despite putting themselves at risk.
Tributes and flowers were later left outside the property.
A WARNING ABOUT LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said the tragedy highlights the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries.
The service said there had been 150 fires linked to lithium-ion batteries in Merseyside between April 2023 and August 2026, with five deaths linked to those incidents.
Fire officials urged people to use only batteries and chargers supplied with a device or approved by the manufacturer.
They also warned people to stop using a battery if it begins to swell, makes unusual sounds, develops a strong smell, fails to charge properly or begins producing smoke.
FOUR LIVES LOST
For the Brabin family, however, the investigation into the fire can never explain the enormity of what has been lost.
Elisha was 36.
Leo was 16.
Ellis was 8.
Prudence was just 7.
A mother and three children who should have had decades of life ahead of them were gone within a matter of minutes.
Their family is now left with memories, photographs and the support of a community that watched in horror as the tragedy unfolded.
And as investigators reveal how the fire began, those who knew Elisha and her children are asking that they be remembered not simply as the victims of a house fire, but as a family who were deeply loved.
Four lives. One family. And a tragedy that has left an entire community grieving.
